Another notable character gone, it’s such a shame. I am left feeling infinitely sad and empty at the thought of never meeting these wonderful characters again.<o></o>

There are so many amusing anecdotes that I could recount about Fred. He loved life and he was full of mischievous humour; he always made those around him smile.

Universally popular, he leaves us with treasured and joyous memories and he will be sorely missed by all those who knew him and we pass our condolences to those closest to him. <o></o>
I was just thinking about Fred after seeing Dai had died. I was up in Anglesey last year & saw Fred in a pub in Llangefni. I went up to him & had a chat with him. He had not changed 1 bit.
Again, a very sad day and another great loss.
I haven't seen him for a very long time but I don't think he ever really got over losing his best mate Corporal David Smith when we were in Ebrington Barracks.
RIP Fred.

Dai and Fred were two of the nicest men I ever had the pleasure and honour of sharing an odd potion with. Godbless them both till we meet again in the "other" Red Dragon.
i also served with fred in ebrington he was a great easy going guy, i was also with cpl dave smith when he copped it in strabane, another great easy going bloke, ......two of the best!
Yet again what sad sad news what can i say about fred dargi such a great man who ever came across him strait as a die so sad
Please let me know when the funeral is as I might go up to Anglesey for it
So sorry to hear about Dai and Fred, I cant make Dai,s send off but I can make Freds, if someone, when it becomes available, give details of service and loc. Sympathies and regards to family and comrades.
I Knew Fred & Dai 14, For Years It Is Sad To Hear Two Great Guys Have Gone The Same Time, My Sympathies Go To All Families Concerned
I have just found out from my family, that his funeral will be held at the Bangor Crematorium at 11:00 on Thursday the 8th of June
sad to here of another 2 comrades of the rwf always in our thoughts very sad
As if the loss of Dai 14 was not enough the passing of Fred keeps bringing the
number of old Bulford Carter Bks boys smaller and smaller.
Again a big loss. Two big hearts gone.
I remember seeing odd photos of Fred and Dai over the years but there are none on this site. I have looked through my albums but failed to turn any up. Has anyone out there got any that we can put in the forum album . Perhaps some of the photos from the Red Dragon can be reproduced by the Battalion as I know there are some good ones there. We have lost so many characters over the years (not just Fred and Dai) and it would be nice if we could log on, look at the photos and remember them and their contribution to Battalion life.
Another sad loss remember him well same platoon in Honiton / Hong Kong sadly missed.

Today we said goodby to Fred Dargie one of the stars now gone.
The service at Bangor was well represented by old mates from the
Regiment and it seemed like a mini reunion, especialy to me haveing
not seen some of them for over 30 years.
If my Bestman Dai14 has the same sendoff on Friday then I will be happy,
But sorry not to have been able to get there
Adrian [Rolli],
Thank you for that report. It is so good to hear that the Service was well attended and that Fred had a good send off. Knowing that his funeral had been so well attended, Fred would have almost certainly approved.
Fred was the first person i met when i joined the Bn in Ebrington Bks Londonderry, The first thing he did was to led me a tenner to go for a pint at the flash and hackle club, What great memories i have of Fred as my section commander ie Cliff Cluterbuck farting in the back of the pig and Fred chucks him out and makes him run behind it minus his gat through strabane, Like Roy Carter 36 i had the great pleasur of serving with Fred and cpl Dave Smith.
As the saying goes old soldiers never die, these men will always be in my memories.
I would just like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all Fred's old companions who managed to get to his funeral service. It was a sad day but a lovely turnout for a great man.I know he would have been very proud.
