I have been looking through the pics on the forum, and have noticed on the ones showing Christmas 2007, that the Badges of rank are worn on both arms.
Is this now the standard for 1 Royal Welsh?

yes that is true, both arms with green backing
Thanks Mark.
Shades of 1 RRW again I see. Who was senior regiment on merger?
I know that the Hackle is still with us, but are 2 RW wearing the Flash?
You'd think the Hackle was still with us, but there are still members of the 2nd Bn who are working in Wales who dont wear the Hackle.
Thanks Kev. Is the non wearing of the Hackle a pers thing or something that senior persons have said will happen.
It's an individual thing, policy states we are all to wear it but some are still resisting and wherever possible they choose not to, because they are out of the way they can get away with it.
Yes the 2nd Battalion do were the Flash and the Hackle weather or not they do wear it. Its the responibilty of the rank wearing indivdaul next to them to get a grip of it.
I went to the rugby yesterday and the 2nd Battalion were there and the all were wearing the Hackle.
I totally agree with you Beefy, and I have on occasion asked persons of the same rank why they are not wearing a Hackle. It seems to me and others that members of the 2nd will try to get away with not wearing one whenever possible. Granted when they are in large organised groups they will always comply.
I guess some find it hard to move forward now that we have merged, well i ain't going to get political on the matter, chances are i'll get shot down in flames.
Agreed it is time to move forward, and there are individuals that will drag their heels.
I have 15 R Welsh recruiters (1st & 2nd) working for me across SE Wales. They all wear the hackle and when asked my 2nd Bn NCOs’ said they are proud to wear the hackle as they see it to be a unique item which helps promote the Regiment and instill pride. It was certainly well represented at the Wales v SA game yesterday. Kev if you see anyone not wearing one for any other reason that it may be p***ing down with rain why don’t you grip them?
In general the 2nd Battalion has just got on with this merger and a majority of soldiers mostly those serving in Tidworth wear there hackle with pride the people who do not are living in the past and have got to accept what has happened and just get on with it whether being 1st or 2nd Battalion ( if the cap fits wear it) we are now one Regiment and we have to move on at the end of the day the merger will just make us stronger with issues like recruiting. As the advert says one Army;
Proud to of worn the Royal Welch cap badge and still proud wearing the Royal welsh cap badge
scorch
THIS IS NOT POLITICAL
When announced the merger of the two battalions was not welcomed, but if you think about other mergers and disbandments of other regiments, at least the Royal Welsh the merger has now been accepted.
I appreciate that there are oldies like me, who cant get their head round having the new regiment and that it is here to stay' We should all be PROUD of serving in or have links with a WELSH REGIMENT.
Look at the Wiltshire Regiment for example, became DERR, then RGBW and now The Rifles (what goes around comes around).
I agree, I am and always will be proud of being a Royal Welchman but feel that we have not lost our identity unlike other regiments the D & Ds 11th of foot now the rifles and The Stafford Regiment 38th 64th now the Yeomanry both very proud regiments and I was lucky to have served with both and know just how hard it must of been and still is for them when the change came.
Barry - always a Welchman proud to be Welsh!
