What a parade! I was so proud of all of you. Those who serve now and those who have served, I salute you. What a fabulous bunch you are! The best in the world. I hope you all had a great weekend and all got home safe and sound.
Take care all

had a great time.. salute to the march.great moment great regiment..hope to have a short video on later,
Great to hear Saturday went really well the Regiment deserved it, Great to see lots of old friends it really brought home just what I have been missing for the last 10 years and now I cant wait for next year. well done to the 1st Bn for completing an outstanding tour of Cyprus with all the success and hard ships of the operational tours added on to them also. Great to see them in chester and cant wait for the future comrades weekends we can share along side serving members commitments allowing. Thanks to every one I meet on the Friday night far to many to mention and not long enough to talk to all for making the Friday night one to remember. Sid Giles you can't half still swing those hips mate.
From what I have heard and read, it looks if the Freedom parade in Wrexham went well and the the tradiions of the 1st Bn have been kept.
Lets home the parade in Swansea goes as well
I am glad the parade went well, as I was unable to attend I have been watching BBC Wales and ITV Wales new's to see any reports / footage of the parade, I didn't see any reports.
Did I miss it or did it not get reported ?, did anyone else see anything at all other than the Daily Post which mentioned that the parade would take place.
Regards,
Joe.
Marching through Wrexham and seeing all the crowds cheering was indeed a privilage. The crowds were 10 deep in places and every last one of them proud to welcome their home Regiment in Wrexham. It was such a pity it was not on the national news both in Wales and the UK. Has anyone got video or pictures that can be posted on the forum?

Unfortunately the Welsh media(HTV/BBC Wales) have passed on their apologies. As Wrexham is North of Aberystwth, neither their cameras or reporters stretch as far as Wrexham!! We would have had more chance getting Granada to broadcast it!!!
Only joking. Er, hang on a minute, no Im not!! To prove it, If there is no coverage of the parades in Swansea/Cardiff on one of the above channels, I will buy every single forum member a pint at our next get together!! Im that confident on this one.
Tha is a fairly good report, however there are a couple of poins that I wish to make:
1. I am sure that Brig Porer is Col of Reg and no Gerhard Wheeler that is said in the paper.
2. No mention of the Bn's trips to Afgan, Falklands or Iraq.
How many Bn's have returned to the UK from Iraq and Afgan and have been qiven heroes welcomes, looks if we have not.
Makes you wonder who is doing the press releases for the parades that are happening?
I have sent the local BBC an Email and will be sending one to ITV Wales asking for an explanation as to why there was no coverage, I hope that RHQ were ever it is at the moment does the same.
Joe.
A defence news article on the parade.........

I have recieved a reply from the BBC regarding the lack of coverage of the 1st Bn's march and freedom ceremony on Sat, the main reason was as follows: "it seems that, unfortunately , the bad weather and serious flooding in parts of Wales meant that news cameras were at full stretch on Saturday" the reply adds "We hope that there will be another oppurtunity to feature the 1st Bn The Royal Welsh in the not too distant future"
I must admit it was a bad week-end for weather.
Regards,
Joe.
Yeah, Ok, granted it was a bad weekend for weather. It didnt seem to be bad enough to stop hundreds of our colleagues and commrades who made it up from South Wales though.
yes it was a good turnout bargoed&blackwood branch
Hello Scouse.
Thanks for the accolade for the south wales branches for attending the freedom march. You are a nice scouser, I hope Everton win the premier league for your act of kindness.
Regards "Don" aka RBD
Yeh well said Scouse. BBC and ITV Wales have studios in Bangor which is only 1 hour away. Ive heard some excuses in my time!
If the end of the world really did happen today, BBC Wales would still have managed to have their camera's present for an event in South Wales.(Im being sarcastic!!). I did understand that they meant their resources were stretched because of reporting on bad weather at the weekend, and not because they could not reach Wrexham. But surely, they have enough resources in North Wales to spare us a reporter, cameraman and sound 'bloke'! ...Or do they?
Thinking on, Me, Sid and Led would have done it with a camcorder!!
Therein Ladies and Gentlemen lies the problem!! Lack of quality PR.
I work in PR ( not touting for business I hasten to add), if you have and event you want televised you lobby the TV companies talking to your contacts to ensure coverage. My estimation is although the excuse of the weather was given, sufficent lobbying of the media was not carried out in the manner it should have been. The weather on Saturday was fine there were no roads in North, Mid or South Wales that were not passable therefore TV crews...had they been tasked, would have been able to get to Wrexham.

I agree Paul, lack of PR, not only from RHQ, HQ Wales but also from HQ NW District (Bn do come under their Admin Command), who could have advised Granada and he North Wales press.
What a day. It was a privilege and honour to be part of the parade as a comrade. Well done to the Battalion for they’re excellent work. Having a pint with those serving at the Guild hall was also a special occasion. Hope Mac Macarthy got home OK.
