Re: Eifion Jones 80
Like the rest of you I am deply saddened to hear of the passing of Eifion. It truly was an Honour and a pleasure to have served with him. His sense of duty and loyalty within the Regiment was second to none and his commitment to every job he did, was total. I had the un-enviable task of following his footsteps firstly in the Signal Platoon and then the QMs. ( I say un-enviable because he was an impossibly hard act to follow). Never a worry though, as his handovers were always perfect and he would always make himself available to lend a guiding hand and an attentive ear. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a remarkable ability get away with remarks that would earn the majority of us a slap in the face. Eifion was my Peer, my Boss, my Neighbour and one of my Best Friends . Wenna and the family are in our thoughts.
" He 's Singing in the Rhondda one more time" Godbless Eifion.

Re: Eifion Jones 80
I'm so sorry to hear that another wonderfully loyal and truly profesional Royal Welchman has passed away well before his time. 80 had been a mainstay of 1RWF in so many roles, not least in the Signals Platoon. I remember well how his knowledge of all things signals and his proactive rather than reactive initiative kept communications going on exercise in Lemgo and on operations in NI so many times. This coupled with his great sense of humour, and wonderful stories, and ability to just make things happen were real strong points. He 'saved the day' on so many occasions. Nothing ever seemed to much for him. When I was Adjt, and running 'zero alpha', and the other Bn HQ officers always seemed to manage to skive off stag, 80 was there to take his turn and quite frankly he could have run the show by himself, and often did; he was that sort of man. 80 and Wenna also of course played a full part in Bn life helping many young soldiers through the early days of their Service. I'm sure my final thoughts will be the same as everyone who had the good fortune to serve along side him - the Regimental family owe him a lot, we shall all miss him.
There are many kinds of sorrows
In this world of love and hate
But there is not sterner sorrow
Than a soldier's for his mate.

AS RQMS in Berlin with RICHIE as RSM they certently look after George Cole and myself , for that i will be eternally grateful , YOURS ALWAYS YOURS SAM .

Re: Eifion Jones 80
I hear with a broken heart the very sad news of Eifion's passing and support all the kind words and memories that fellow comrades have already mentioned. A truly outstanding Royal Welchman who will be sadly missed by all those who ever had the pleasure to know and serve with him. I know for one that without Eifion's help and guidance throughout my career I would not have achived the the things I managed to achive within the Royal Welch. Farewell my friend. my condolences go out to Wenna, family & Keith at this very very sad time.

Deepest Regrets

" The pure, the bright, the beautiful,
That stirred our hearts in youth,
The impulses to wordless prayer,
The streams of love and truth,
The longing after something lost,
The spirit's yearning cry,
The striving after better hopes ---
These things can never die.
The timid hand stretched forth to aid
A brother in his need
A kindly word in grief's dark hour
That proves a friend indeed;
The plea for mercy softly breathed
When justice threatens high
The sorrow for a contrite heart ---
These things will never die.
Let nothing pass, for every hand
Must find some work to do,
Lose not a chance to waken love ---
Be firm and just and true.
So shall a light that cannot fade
Beam on thee from on high
And angel voices say to thee ----
These things shall never die"

Re: Eifion Jones 80
A very sad day. I never really got to work with Eifion until I made it into the Sgt´s Mess. That being said, as a young Fusilier in Lemgo, I certainly knew all about him.
He was admired by all of my era of young Fusiliers because at that time, he was a rare breed of SNCO who always showed kindness and respect to the young soldiers, but was never weak. He was very approachable, and he was always rich with humour. A highly intelligent soldier who was respected by all. Those qualities made him stand out amongst his peers. When I later joined the mess, and as Eifion climbed further up the ladder, those qualities never deserted him.
Deepest condolances to Wenna and their family, and of course to his brother Keith. Your all in our thoughts.
