N.I. Deja vu

Reading to nights news on Northern Ireland with regards to the loyalist disturbances and attacks on the police does this not have a feeling of deja vu back to the 60's and the beginning of the troubles.
There have been a couple of incidents against the catholic population in the last few days, which at this time have not drawn a serious re
sponse. However, if these incidents continue and build how long before there is a serious esculation, resulting in the PSNI., once again seeking assistance and the government deploying militery units into the province. I remember that last year there was talk of training and send members of the main land police over there to assist in policing but given the history of the province how many would actually volunteer, I think very few.
At this time I have the feeling of deja vu and that once again our militery ( mainly army) will be piggy in the middle of another civil / religious conflict.

There will never be peace in NI as long as the pope’s a catholic

We just do not have the troops to cover any trouble there now

We will be pushed to the limits if it flares up like it was in the 70s/80s/90s. Who are the Government goint to send over there? The RAF Regiment maybe?

May be a "Dad's" army?

Or maybe it’s time to “pull the plug” and have a referendum [yet another] on whether to unite the Island; is it time for a united Ireland?

I know we have lost a lot of our comrades over there, but do we want to lose more, fighting a battle than can never be won due to the ineptitude of politicians and embedded sectarianism.

It would save the UK a lot of money in subsidies as well.

I know the Unionists would kick off but they would just have to accept the vote, the Young People surely don’t want a return to the ‘Troubles’ of the past.

No easy answers.

As someone who identifies as British and who lives in Northern Ireland, to say I am dismayed at some of the remarks on this thread would be an understatement. It is not time to 'pull the plug' and certainly not time for an United Ireland. Can I ask Mr Light Order how he would feel if I were to suggest Wales united with England? Those of us loyal to the Crown and whose ancestors fought and died for Britain in wartime could NOT live under Dublin rule where our culture, religion and rights would not be respected. Rant over.

Nice to hear from someone who actually lives over there only you know what the feelings are

Thank you. Tired of all the negativity.

I wouldn't worry Deborah, just a couple of guys who really may as well be doing this by whatsapp amongst themselves really.

I hope those who might be liable to be sent over in the event of increased ‘activity’ will ponder on the way NI Veterans have been thoroughly betrayed by our dishonourable politicians and the GUARANTEE that it will happen again in a couple of decades if there are new killings of terrorists in the next phase.

why? - because that is what basically dishonest and thoroughly undesirable politicians do, claiming they know that this mistreatment of ex soldiers is good for the country!

Unfortunately don’t think that this apples to this conflict only we have seen from Iraq, Afghanistan those in power will come after you maybe that’s the reasons that the armed forces are so short of manpower as people begin to realise that they can’t trust governments
