Hi guys my great uncle davey my mam as told me was in the territorials in flint and drafted in to the Regiment in ww2.
Mam said he lived at mumford street Flint and was at Dunkirk and thinks he was a sergeant .
there is a photo of him at a drill hall in front of the castle in flint .
That's all we have on him sadly no number . Is there chance I can get his services record from this infomain or even what unit he was in. 7th I think we're from flint .

There's 76 David Williams listed on the enlistment register!!! Don't suppose he had an unusual middle name? Otherwise I think you might struggle on a free search.
Full name and date of birth should be enough to get the service record.

No need for a donation here, as we've not been able to help you. I was talking about a paid enquiry to the RWF Museum to obtain his service number. I think at this stage apply for his service record, as suggested by Baconwallah, then we can help you make sense of it later and perhaps track his wartime movements.
You really need his Service Records to tie any of this down, unfortunately its a bit messy.
The only RWF Bn/Regt (bar 101 LAA & AT Regt) was 1 RWF in 1940 campaign.
Transfers between TA/Regs were uncommon, but not unheard of, during that period - either way to me... its highly unlikely or several stories mixed up there.
Can you upload the photo with a bit of luck that may prove of great assistance.

I will try and give you some detail on the 60th later.
It was in a flint magazine my mam kept I took the photo off its some time back .not sure if the original was in the local paper.I will have a chat with her. there are some more in it, this one is in front of the castle drill hall flint she thinks .there is. one with RWF marching through the town. I will be up there in a few weeks I will look it out.
the photo of the 60th was in the midweek leader called down memory lane 25th aug 94 .
Another guy in the picture Bert Prescott(Father of Lord Prescott) went to Dunkirk, he was a BQMS with 101, he got wounded and lost a leg. Two batteries of 60 RWF AT joined up with two LAA batteries to form a composite regiment, 101 LAA and AT Regiment, they went over to France with 1st Armd Div. Some of them got out but the casualties were bad. Your Uncle David was probably with them. The unit will be covered in Vol 5 of Regimental Records, when it gets published in the future. They would have been classed as Royal Artillery by Dunkirk.

Do you know what his mothers maiden name was Gary. ? There is a few options on Ancestry.
Elizabeth davies was morris was her mother, cheer for this .I beleave he had 2 sisters and 2 brothers my nains name was also Elizabeth she was the oldest and her sister was the youngest by fifteen years .
Got him on the 1911 census, aged 2..Hopefully… Born 1909. His father is a Coal Miner Hewer.

Margaret Elizabeth martin was jones his mother's name they lived at salsbury st flint 1911 census born 1909 .he moved to Preston but was from flint .
60 Anti-Tank Regiment is an area for further work on my part.
Fantastic picture! Highlights the prevailance of 22 SD, a coloured and ordinary FS caps. If you dig up any more images I'd be very interested to hear, also if you could email me with your details through jonathanhware.com as I have a few specific qs on the image/magazine details (for potential inclusion).
They were converted from 5 RWF (formerly of 158 Brigade) in 1938 but retained the Flash and Goat. They left 53 Div on 13 October to move to Aldershot where they were duly restructured to 101 LAA & AT Regt, joining 1 Armoured Division.
Now here is where it gets (for me) rather interesting and exciting, I've done extensive work on them (some appears Jocks, Dragons and Sospans in an Appendices.)
You'd need to tie down his exact role (whether he was A Echelon or not) and with service records you'll find he was not evacuated at Dunkirk, either at Brest with much of the Motor Transport OR from St Valery, just before 51st Highland capitulated, or potentially as a small cadre with Major Roger Charlton (OC 239 Battery who assumed command of Regt and facilitated St Valery evac) who escaped on the steamer Princess Maud further down the coast.
In total 7 Officers and 303 men escaped back to Britain, far more than claimed by Kemp & Graves in Red Dragon. The full Regimental story is arguably the most bonkers Welsh related action in 1940.

The other two, 4180490 - Mother Sarah, so discounted him. Also 4201056, a post 1940 enlistment, so no personal details logged in the registers, you would have to apply for his papers to box him off.
Did spot this one though, from Flint, possibly extended family?:
4179198 Robert Martin born about 1898. He enlists in 1919, his father "Robert" living at 6 Princess St, Flint. Discharged in 1923, by then a L/Sgt with 1RWF.

My grandad williams had another nephew henry 18who died in Cork hospital of an infection serving with the rwf in1920 and is buried in the old cemetery flint . Cheers al .
