Ah The Rattle I remember it well. Jerry Crocker waking us up in the mornings when everyone had a hangover . "Cum On" he would say in a long drawn out way, Then from the back of one of the rooms you could her " F### O###. The reply was sweet " I dont think so Hind, I dont think so". Not bad guessing out of a whole Company.

Hi all, I was in 8 pl C coy at that time, Jim McFarlane (Mac). Spud Murphy ( Jack ) was section commander, Nick Ravenhill was platoon comd and Maj De-Lakaks Lesener (I think thats how you spell it) was Coy Comd.
From what I remember their was also Lt Price Edwards and an RAOC officer called Oldham I think? Their are quite a few I can remember but not sure whether they were in 7 or 9 (Drums) pl maybe someone can help me out?
Hey Jim,
Hows it going. I'll see you at the Comrades Weekend.

Great to hear from you too Tony, I'll look forward to September, should be a good turnout!!
Take care Mate, Jim.
Good to hear from you too Cled, have only just started on the forums albeit I have been a member for sometime now! Your right, PE was 7pl comd. Do you remember his crazy salute? Will have to make contact with him as I felt he was a decent guy.
Regards, Jim.
Hi Chow, I remember Mo Ullah very well and see him most years at the Comrades in Wrexham still looks the same ( with the exception of an earing) and still as mad as ever!!! As for Misfit I have no idea, wasn't he from Stroud and used to eat worms in the Zur post pub Lemgo?
Regards, Jim.:twitcy:
hey jim.misfit probable did eat worms..lol he came from cirencester..now in hayes midx..as for mo been talking to him for a couple of months if you want his number pm me..
don,t know about the salute i do remember the time he was orderly officer in Lemgo and called the guard out in the middle of the night along with the orderly sgt (the ginger bloke from 7 platoon can,t remember is name) they were both p***ed and thought it was a good laugh till the RSM got to know about it and gave them both an extra weeks orderly duties.
regards cled:cool:

Hey Cled, do you remember a guy called Llewellyn (Not the CO) he was a skinny lad and I think he was big mates with Bennet, the Oc's driver? I think he came out in Lemgo, but not sure. He was the one who was rapped arround the barb wire at the top of the gate leading to the SKC (SSVC) he had been there all night and was hanging upside down when we found him, absolutely plastered.
Jim.:twitcy:
Cled I think the missing name in this photo is Glen Gwilym our section APC driver.
Regards Jim.

hey Jones 20!!!!
remember you getting your hand burned after messing with a thunderflash at New Zealand camp on SPTA before we left for Lemgo. I remember loads of guys but the trouble is, a name is familiar and then a face is but they never seem to match. Rob 03 I invited to my wedding in 1982 ( he never turned up). Roberts 83 was my best man. He was still awol from Lemgo at that point. I seem to remember seeing Mal New on the news once regarding some thing to do with him being ill???
I bet you don't remember me though.
I remember the big 7 v 9 pl fight under the gym with 8 pl sort of splitting to make it even.
I live in Leeds now but have a house in Tanygrisiau as well.

In addition to my last post.
God the rejection still hurts. (Yeah right)
The only thing that helped me recover from the mental and emotional trauma of being deported to the drums for Derry 78-79 was the fact that they were a cracking bunch of lads and it was an honour to serve with them.
If my memory serves me right, didn't Jim mcPharlane go to the Drums for Ireland as well??
griff029
Griff the Drums are and have always will be a cracking bunch of lads...
I thought Misfit and Mo were 7 pl. May be wrog about Misfit. I seem to remember MO and the CQMSs daughter were an item????
I also seem to remember Mis got into serious bother in Derry over some tyres?? I also seem to remember it led to Sgt Jinks and tom 31 getting posted to A coy or the COs rover group.
Wierd ho stuff is really vivid but other stuff is as foggy as ......fog??
griff029
Hi 29
Thanks for the kind words about the drums platoon, and even though Rick hasn't said it you'll be welcome as you were attached to us for that londonderry tour your as good as a Drummer, it was a cracking tour, keep an eye on the drums platoon sub forum for the date of the next Drums reunion and you will be more than welcome, wont he Rick ?
thanks for that mate.
Just dug out a few old pics. A few of me in Londonderry. Hopefully be able to scan a few tomorow and get them up to put you out of your misery about who I am.
If I get the gist of things right, you and Dai are into the bike thing. Did it a few years back. Kawasaki ZX6R. My ears are shot now so I had to flog it. Still good fun while it lasted. We were in Llandudno last weekend and maybe even walked past Dai. Spooky. Especially as I thought I recognised a bloke from my otherunit there about three months ago.
I remember the tyre incident griff refers to, misfit and if i remember correctly ken rattenbury had a nice 28 day holiday, but i thought jinks movement was something to do with patroling in a man u skarfe and slippers, maybe i'm wrong but can anyone else remember?
