Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Thanks Lars
But drew a blank on him as his initals G.W.J. Osborne but then ..no way of checking...seems this period in the RWF history has been forgotten and not recorded...pity as I have a few photo's but need names
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Hi Blairy,
I'm assuming you have a boxing interest. I have a medal and small cup(Best Coach) that belonged to Sgt ET Morse. Who coached the team that won the All India Championships in the early 1900's. Have you seen the reproduced picture of the winning team in the gallery?
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Here is a picture of a Drummer G Osbourne link
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
ap1. I have seen all the photo's, they all came from Don via me, I have a few medals from 1900c and Osborne, Walters, Smith are my main interest, a friend has the Middleweight championship of India 1906 cup Ranger - Hall Fight
I have photo's of most of the boxing trophies of the RWF from 1900 With a few of pics of Basham, Wilde, Matt & Billy Wells from the Great War period.
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Bob, Thanks for the Link, I have the same photo's only issued by Willis, the Scissor series were issued to the soldiers overseas mainly India, both sets issued about 1913
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Do you have anything on "Pritchard" from 2nd Bn in the early 1900's in India, we think he was in the team that won the All-India Championships. His grandson is a good pal of mine. We did try and identify him on some of the pictures. But its quite difficult.
Thanks

Sorry Blairy, got a bit mixed up there. I'm doing this from afar!!!
The guy is Albert Ross (1RWF), who fought in the All India Boxing Championships in 1924. Albert perished in the Gresford Colliery Disaster in 1934.
I have a boxing medal presented to ET Morse with the 3rd BN at Limerick in about 1919 I think. I also have his "Best Coach cup" from the 1924 Championships.
Thanks

Do you know anyone that can check back issues of Y DDRAIG GOCH Oct. 1937 it might be in Famous Sporting Regiments about boxing , It was originally in mag called The Field 1937 …
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
I got a pic from from jungle10 (Don) a few years ago 1934 of RWF V.Horton, Welter-weight, W.Walters Light Heavyweight, J.Pottinger Fly-weight, A Barnes Bantam-weight Welsh Amateur Boxing team British Empire Games London 1934
But not the Walters I want from 1900's
I have a very large photo of the whole 3rd Battalion in Limerick 1919 so your man Morse would be on it if you knew what he looked like

Boxing record for E.T. Morse
Annual Boxing Tournament in India, 1922.
Of the competitors who reached the finals, Sergt. Morse, A Company (Caerphilly), displayed a vastly superior knowledge of the game than the remainder.
MIDDLE WEIGHTS Pte. 64 Taylor, D Company (Liverpool) v.Sergt. E. T. Morse, A Company (Caerphilly).-Taylor put up a good fight against a more experienced opponent till the end of the second round, when he was knocked out. Sergt. E. T. Morse, A Company v. Pte. 30 C.Jones, C Company (Cardiff).-Jones was knocked out in the first round. SEMI-FINALS. Sergt. E. T. Morse, A Company v. Bandsman Poulton, H.A. Company. -In the first round full of clinches Morse just led, increasing his lead in the second, he outed his man in the third. His left lead was very useful in stopping the longer reach of his opponent who fought a plucky fight with a broken thumb against a more experienced boxer, and he was forced to give in, gaining for his Company extra points awarded to good losers FINAL. Sergt. E. T. Morse, A Company v. Amr. S/Sergt. McMillan, H.Q. Company.-A fast contest in which Morse was down once in the first round and saved himself by resting. By a left lead followed by a hard right swing McMillan gained the advantage
in the second round. Morse, rushing and leading heavily early in the last round, staggered his opponent who was now tired, and knocked him out in the last twenty seconds.
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Thanks Blairy,
There is a picture of Morse in 1950's at a reunion in Wrexham in the Forum Gallery. I will see if I can find the link. It's with a group of guys who fought in Warizstan in the early 1920's.
Have a look through the members list for Bob Doak. He was the 1st Bn's boxing officer in the 80/90's and has a great interest and knowledge in the history of RWF regimental boxing, drop him a line, i'm sure he would be interested in your work. Finally one of our members, John Turner. His wife is a descendent of Billy Wells.....I think!!
Thanks again

I corresponded a few years ago with a woman who was a Wells relative and sent her quite a bit on Bombardier Billy Wells, He came to Brum on the recruiting drive with the boxing team in 1915 -16 the prize in the raffle was a bulldog.
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Not sure if you've seen this thread or the pics attached:
http://rwf-forum.co.uk/vBulletin/sho...ighlight=morse
The 2nd page shows morse in the 1950's wearing glasses.
Re: RWF Boxers Walters and Osborne
Hello Blairy
just seen your post I was very interested in your photo of the 3rd battalion in limerick in 1919. I am currently studying the military in limerick in 1919,
any assistance would be greatly accepted.
regards
Stephen
