World Cup

It will be interesting to see if any action is taken against JT when the FA meet to discuss the future of Copello. He did (allegedly) try to incite what ammounts to mutiny amongst the team. Mutiny as we know, was punishable by death in the services particularly at sea, it was that serious an offence. If the charge is correct, then JTs actions must be considered as a factor in the miserable final performance against the Germans and surely must face some sort of disciplinary action.

I think the French were a little over zealous sending Anelka home instead of dropping him to the sidelines but in the long term it hopefully it will have an effect on the "player power" situation that seems to be indemic in football today. OK the manager is not always right but, (as we did in the army) obey the orders at the time given and if there is a problem, readdress it later in private not to all and sundry. Perhaps it is possible, that the actions of JT and the scathing response of the public/media may very well serve to remind players in our premiership not to get ideas above their station and get on with the job they are paid/overpaid to do on the pitch. Once that goal is achieved (and the England team have some way to go) perhaps their views will be considered.

Should Capello go. My personal view is no. Ok perhaps some of his selections and positioning of players was suspect but surely he didn't tell his defence to all go up into the box and stay there, (given the German reputation at that point in the comp)....no that was down to player error and JT being the old hand and Ex-skipper knows it.

As for the players, well many of that team played their hearts out from the off and I think it is wrong to slap down guys who give of their best. It is unfortunate that many of them lost their form at a critical time but it happens. Look at other teams whose big names flatter to decieve at this World Cup and how many of them, play in our Premiership. Some believe that our premiership has left players tired, perhaps there is something in that.

Breaking news,
JT and Gerrad had a big blow out,over a issue that will be hitting the papers shortly,and if it is true what i am hearing, Gerrads football days could be over,apparantly half were supporting Gerrard and half JT,Rooney and Lampard almost came to fistycuffs,so yes there was huge unrest in the camp,there is a gagging order at the moment stopping the papers telling the story,but the judge only held it for 3 weeks while the FA sort Capellos future,so stand by for some big news,
Anyway guys what right did JT have holding that press conference,he is only a member of the squad.

England's performance was not only hopeless against the German's the whole campaign from just before their arrival in SA and during the group stages was just not good enough.
I put it down to the amount of football these players have to play throughout the season. Also,despite waxing lyrical about the skills of Gerrad, Lampard and Rooney they play in sides that are full onf non-English players and when you start looking at the quality of the rest then you're struggling to find any real world class quality.
When are we in the UK going to learn that to win competitions like World Cup or even the European Cup our players have to be comfortable on the ball?.....and ours are not. My 7 year old grandson asked me if the Engish side were the rugby team because alongside the Germans they looked muscle-bound and so huge as to look like rugby players not footballers. It's not just England either all our football teams are about power and size. I leave you with a final thought on this "Football is a game that humans complicate" and in the UK we really do complicate the game!:arghh:

I look at the phrase the real heroes we should be supporting,whilst i have enjoyed a little bit of bannter on the World cup subject,i am also off to Wotton bassett whenever i can to salute our troops home,the turn out is always fantastic from all over the country,Welsh,Irish,Scottish,English together as one,nobody can ever in my eyes compare anything against our brave troops who we are all so proud of,so it is not about should be supporting we do and always will.Sport is always a big talking issue and always will be.

Well i guess the Germany v Argentine result puts the England match into some sort of perspective.

I agree Keith. The Germans were awesome again and made Argentina look second rate. If they do the same to Spain (and It would not suprise me after tonights game)
perhaps the credit should be given to the young German team rather than the total slating that England have recieved.

thats miles away,how did you end up there,i was only asking as i have a lot of work in Devon,i won a big contract with ASDA, recently so i will check the map,yes Germany were great yesterday i dont think anyone will stop them now,makes England look better,and rightly so the MANAGER kept his job.

I'm going to set the tounges wagging again. Germany were outstanding, Argentina had some very good individuals who could not gell as a team and I'm afraid England's performances were well below that of Argentina and they were a 6th rate side at best!
