Obviously she deserves some sort of medal, Dilwyn lol !
Sorry Dai for the late reply to the Dando story (my comuter has been stuffed), yeh we were in Berncastle Kues (was there in aug on the bike not much has changed). The week was'nt at all lucky for "call me Brian".
Brian was the Pl comd he stayed on the campsite with his wife the Pl were in a field about 100m away we had 12x12s John Davies 34 was acting Pl Sgt
He took a bit of a liking to us that week considering we were L/jacks, we went fishing Brian bought all the kit & caught nowt we were hauling them out with land lines from our survival kits.
He invited the Pl to his caravan for a BBQ, he got the wrong charcoal all the food was black & covered in soot he was not amused when he found the majority of it thrown under the caravan in the morning.
Regarding the night in question the Pl had gone back so had Brians wife,we the chosen ones were going to travel back the following day, we were walking/staggering back to the site when as you say we bumped into the 2 yanks, we all started talking the next moment there was a scuffle & Brian was laying in the gutter moaning so you stuck one on the Yank, the one I was talking to broke a bottle against the wall so I kicked him straight in the balls, we ruffed them up a bit & sent them on their way.
On getting back to the caravan we could see Brians shoulder was dislocated so we took it in turns to try & put it back, one of us held him down while the other a foot on his shoulder & pulled on his arm. oh how he screamed, oh how we laughed.
The following morning we took him to the local hospital, he was taken in, we were given two of what appeared to be shower caps each & wondered why two we've only got one head, we slipped one on & walked into the waiting room, there must have been 50 people in there & yes they had them on there feet!! :twitcy: by the way Brian had not only dislocated but cracked his shoulder as well. ( Brian Dando was tough but good Pl Comd, very fit & I'm sure there are ex NCO's from 11pl who were grateful for his knowledge of the Orders proccess....) About 2 years ago I was in Oswestry, I ordered a Taxi..Brian turned up, he owned the company.
Sorry about that little ramble but me & Dai go back some time, don't we mate?
Regarding block one, Delta's moved into there on arrival in Lemgo, we then spent time in the attic of block two, the rathole & the sunshine posting of them all Detmold were we carried out our NI training from for the 81 tour. ( those battons came in handy when fighting the Donkey Wallopers.0
Thanks for the reminder Rich if only we could turn the clocks back, you could write a book on the antics of the Fusilier, some stories hey! From living in the rattle and climbing the back gate when we were gated for the trouble at Sammie’s bar in Lemgo to ex Crusader to wine tasting I mean adventure training and surviving a night at the Tavern bar in Detmold and much more, I’m sitting here like a little girl giggling to myself and laughing at those early days.
Good to hear that you are still out and about on your bike we get quite a few bikers riding round the hills down here, there’s some good rides on the hills above the area of Llangattock south of Crickhowell and the Sugarloaf mountain if you are ever passing this way give us a call and drop in for a brew. We normally have a large group of bikers camping and playing mega load music in a field not far from our place in Govilon, they turn up every year round about September time for a weekend
Anyhow Rich all the best and take care of yourself
Cheers Dai Martin 70
Nice story Richie, I and yes Dando was quite fit "runner"and a intelegent man although not to hot with BBQs, later he spent time as RSWO in 84ish, not sure about block one "Regarding block one, Delta's moved into there on arrival in Lemgo" but does it matter, but enjoyed your story!
