Bill Roach did National Service and then continued to spent a total of 5 years in the RWF leaving at the rank of Captain during the 50's
Reference Desmond LLewelyn, he spent the most War (5 years of it) in a POW, solitary confinement camp.

I read that all Sir Richard Burton wanted to do was wear the Snr Welch Regt's Cap Badge, however I believe he also wanted to wear the best also.
