Hi Richy
Your talking in riddeles now but I know what you are on about, as do a few others, anybody know of or heard form 06 ? would be nice to invite him to our next RWF Drummers reunion I think we owe him that at least, 6 months is a long time for something you never did. opps!!
Would Love to see o6 again..as i said thanks mate!!....Guvs you have a good memory...It was'nt me I was with Dai..Ha Ha....Good times the RWF/RRW ruled Church crookham with an iron fist..GOOD TIMES..
Good Times...anyone remembere the women!!!!or cant we talk about that.??
Egger Bonjos
Yes Ken..How you doing Mate..we called her Bron-Y-Mawr.her real name was Wendy...is that Welsh for big ****..???
Dai,
I think Siggy got bust for pulling out the .357 in a night club in Cardiff.
Guvs,
I thought you were jnto "fire".
Al - I don't have Bill Street on my list - have another go
Glyn - George Evans is on it, but Col Lloyd is not.
This is a good exercise for me - as I get to add the missing Christian names !
I don't know if this contributes in any useseful way but my Grand Father was awarded the Silver Jubilee Medal as a member of the Oddfellows Lodge (Cardiff Branch) but he had also served through WW2 in the Royal Navy (HMS Hardy North Atlantic Convoys, torpedoed twice - great story). The question is what was the civilian distribution of the medal and what was the qualifing criteria?
The 357 belonged to me..nicks was in Cardiff..what a PLT ...it was was mad crazy times...remember the pub The prince of Wales...we took over the place..Oh and yes I did become Firefiighter..get a smoke alarm they save lives...
DP
I am not sure what the qualifying criteria was for civilians, but I will try and dig something out.
The 'lack' of Silver Jubilee Medals issued (approx 30,000 opposed to approx 320,000 Golden Jubilee Medals) I think can be better understood here, based on papers recently released to the National Archives :

Sorry Richard the old corps seem to of hijacked this thread for a bit. For some reason I thought George Bostock had one or was it he thought he should of had one as he was a figer head of the regiement.
The guy deserverd one...he was one of the best SNR ranks..we ever had.
Having had a rethink, (I was RSM with the 3rd Bn 1977-1980) the following could be the distribution .
Col A Graesser Hon Col 3rd Bn RWF.
Maj J Egan OC D Coy 3rd Bn RWF
WO 2 G Evans CSC D Coy 3rd Bn RWF
Maj Gen P R Leuchars Hon Col 1st BN RWF
Col Philip Lloyd HQ Wales TA Col North Wales.
Glyn
4 out of 5
I don't have Lloyd on my list though - thats not to say he shouldn't be!
Richard,
Whilst waiting for my Mrs to finnish her Christmas shopping yesterday someone else popped into my mind. It was Les Bellamy. I think he was a Sgt or CSgt when he got the medal. Is he on the list?
Not on my list Nasher
If anyone is still in touch with Les it would be good to know a) did he get one and b) if yes, with the RWF or another unit \ reason.
Anymore names ?
I think Les has the MBE. Am I right?
We could start another thread on MBEs ! :radar:
I don't have Les on my list. That said it is very specific, as I can only identify Military division ones, and obviously they had to be RWF to appear on my radar.
If Les did get an MBE I would very much like to know, especially if he was still serving with the RWF at the time of the award.
Richard
Richard, I am sure that Les Bellamy got one.
Joe.
Al,
Do'nt think Les was awarded the MBE/BEM, however I think he may have got the MSM.
You are right Nasher, Les got an MSM not the Jubilee medal.
The list in the regimental record for the Jubilee Medal reads as follows:

I only have one chap not in the list above :
WO2 F Green 1/RWF
Will be interesting to see if anymore come out of the woodwork.
Richard
I thought Irve had it too?
Joe,
Excellent bit of detective work. I suppose its easy when you have all those old names in front of you. Cetrtainly brought back some memories. Thanks again Joe.
Rich,
WO2 F Green was in fact Band Sergeant Major Fred Green.
So this is the combined list :
Can anyone add any details, coys, photos, ect ?Quote:

C/Sgt Thomas J. 1st Bn

Lt Col Llewellyn R M 1st Bn
Lt Col Burkham M I 3rd Bn
Would be good if we could gather as much useful info as we can for future generations. I can supply service numbers for any of the above if needed to narrow the field.
I would also be personally interested to see a photo of a RWF medal group with one in. (My anorak tendencies coming through ..... :GEEK: )
I had to look up Col Graesser, he won the MC in 1944 with the Reconnaissance Corps and the DSO in the gazette of 1946 with the same unit. Anyone know when he came to the RWF ?
The first mention I have found of Col Sir Allistair Grasser was when he took over Honorary Col of the 4th Cadet Bn RWF in May 1972, he was also Hon Col of the 3rd Bn RWF from 17th May 1972-16th Nov 1980.
My guess is that he came from outside the Regiment, by the way Fred Green was awarded the MSM.
Regards,
Joe.
There is an error in the book which I quoted from regarding Col Sir Alistair Graesser, he died in 1993 so he could not have been Hon Col of 3 RWF from 1993 -1980 as quoted in the Regimental Records.
Sorry to give duff info.
Regards,
Joe.
No problem Joe !
One thing I have learned in my many years researching, never solely rely on other peoples books or findings. Dig and cross reference as much as you can.
Which is why threads like this, and help like yours are invaluable !
It is much easier to talk to folk who knew these chaps, or the chaps themselves. Any mistakes can be easily ironed out that way.
Some of my World War One research has given me an enormous headache - the problem being that the old soldiers have faded away and there is nobody left to ask.
Thanks again for all your help Joe, very much appreciated. If we keep posting our findings and sources it will all come together.
When we are happy with it we can create a new tidy post for all to see.
Richard
Hi Richard,
I worked in the Bn Ord Room in Tidworth at the time and I was certain that Drum Maj George Bostock was a recipient. I think he was a GLOSTER when he came to us, would there be anything under that Regt?
Bye for now
Hi Gerry,
I am pretty sure George Bostock (RIP) did not get one. If I remember it was quite a contencious issue at the time as he was the only Drum Major on parade on Horse Guards Parade in the Prince of Wlales Div who did not have one.
I have received a reply back from Joan Bellamy reference Les' medals:
Les received the Silver Jubilee medal, and the MSM but not the MBE, hope this clarifies the situation.
Wishing you, Barbara and family a very Happy Christmas.
Joan
Is there an Official List on who got this Medal?
I have seen previous threads with a list, are they official?
Merry Christmas to all,
Ianto
My son picked up a jubilee medal in a flea market at Niagra Falls, a few years ago, for a couple of dollars. Of course we have no way of knowing it is genuine, but if it is, is there any way of finding out who it was presented to. There are no names, numbers, ranks or regiment details on the medal. Is that the same with all of them?
I was serving with 1 D and D at the time. No chance of me getting one then!
I would just like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. I returned to Oxford last week and took great joy informing an ex Para that in my opinion he was wearing this medal under false pretences. It really is sweet getting one back on the "Airborne".
Mind you, I know a certain ex Drum Major (who will remain nameless) who got "one up" on the Paras over a certain sandwich. The filling of this sandwich will also remain nameless. I just cannot remember where this took place, however I am sure someone out there will jog my memory.
Thanks again all.
Hi keith jones when was you with the D&D AS WAS THERE WITH BUFF Rose in anti tanks in 1976 t0 79 drop us a line.:laugh:Dai Warner
Hi Dave,
I was Chief Clerk 1 D and D from April 1976 to mid 1980 in Belfast Barracks, Osnabruck. Fred Shortis and Bill Bullocke were the COs during that time (oops, forgot that John Wilsey was just taking over as CO when I left in mid 80)!
Keith did you by any chance know Paul Lipinski?
Paul was a Lcpl clerk in the Orderly Room. I also knew his brother (name escapes me!) who transferred to RMP.
