Re: Eifion Jones 80
I'm so sorry to hear that another wonderfully loyal and truly profesional Royal Welchman has passed away well before his time. 80 had been a mainstay of 1RWF in so many roles, not least in the Signals Platoon. I remember well how his knowledge of all things signals and his proactive rather than reactive initiative kept communications going on exercise in Lemgo and on operations in NI so many times. This coupled with his great sense of humour, and wonderful stories, and ability to just make things happen were real strong points. He 'saved the day' on so many occasions. Nothing ever seemed to much for him. When I was Adjt, and running 'zero alpha', and the other Bn HQ officers always seemed to manage to skive off stag, 80 was there to take his turn and quite frankly he could have run the show by himself, and often did; he was that sort of man. 80 and Wenna also of course played a full part in Bn life helping many young soldiers through the early days of their Service. I'm sure my final thoughts will be the same as everyone who had the good fortune to serve along side him - the Regimental family owe him a lot, we shall all miss him.
There are many kinds of sorrows
In this world of love and hate
But there is not sterner sorrow
Than a soldier's for his mate.

Re: Eifion Jones 80
I had a wonderful experience of having served with 80 when he joined the TA. HE said to me I WILL BE AN R S M he left the T A to join the 1ST BATT RWF and he attchived all he set out to do, and nobody could have done it better . AS RQMS in Berlin with RICHIE as RSM they certently look after George Cole and myself , for that i will be eternally grateful , YOURS ALWAYS YOURS SAM .

Re: Eifion Jones 80
I hear with a broken heart the very sad news of Eifion's passing and support all the kind words and memories that fellow comrades have already mentioned. A truly outstanding Royal Welchman who will be sadly missed by all those who ever had the pleasure to know and serve with him. I know for one that without Eifion's help and guidance throughout my career I would not have achived the the things I managed to achive within the Royal Welch. Farewell my friend. my condolences go out to Wenna, family & Keith at this very very sad time.

" OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIE, THEY JUST FADE AWAY"
Deepest Regrets
Benny and Carol Ball
" The pure, the bright, the beautiful,
That stirred our hearts in youth,
The impulses to wordless prayer,
The streams of love and truth,
The longing after something lost,
The spirit's yearning cry,
The striving after better hopes ---
These things can never die.
The timid hand stretched forth to aid
A brother in his need
A kindly word in grief's dark hour
That proves a friend indeed;
The plea for mercy softly breathed
When justice threatens high
The sorrow for a contrite heart ---
These things will never die.
Let nothing pass, for every hand
Must find some work to do,
Lose not a chance to waken love ---
Be firm and just and true.
So shall a light that cannot fade
Beam on thee from on high
And angel voices say to thee ----
These things shall never die"
