I explore the whole engagement in great detail - also the cause of much friction.
But suggesting a whole Div should have been committed... is frankly extreme. Owing to known German defences, the capability at Corps level, high number of weapons systems specialising in saturation, terrain, limited number of routes for advance, extensive minefields, chokepoints, improvised fortifications, single ford crossing point over the Guigne, comms difficulties...
I don't do counter-factuals, but I am very confident to state the end result of employing a Div for this final stage would have resulted in a catastrophic bloodbath on an unprecedented scale. Potentially making Jupiter look like a cakewalk in comparison.
