Around where I was brought up (Pontrobert near Welshpool) Spanners = Sponners. Comb = Coomb, took a bit of stick when I joined up.
I had'nt heard these being used for years but last year I was in Llangollen on a job & the customer said he was going for a sponner & it turned out he used to live in Meifod the neighbouring village of Pont.
My Mum never arrives she "lands" and has never arrived but "landed" this could just be her Welshness coming out ??
My mother's side of the family are from the Welshpool/Newtown area.
They call a gate a 'wicket'

In this part of the world (Sussex) a footpath is a 'Twitten'
