Re: Baroness thatcher.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but do we really need this on here ?

Re: Baroness thatcher.
Its an opinion and a forum for opinions I am sorry you dont like it but a lot of people in this country feel this way.

Re: Baroness thatcher.
This might go some way to explain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKx3MUqzCcQ if you were serving during the Thatcher yrs you was possibly protected from doom of factory closures, Street riots. In Toxteth in Liverpool, Young black and mixed race youths were stopped many times a day by police under the suss law they were searched and humiliated, this is how the Toxteth riots started, I dont condone it but this is the way it was.

Re: Baroness thatcher.
Steve i well remember the Toxteth riots and what caused them to start, you are entitled to your opinion and i agree there is possibly a fair amount of the population who hated her guts and sadly this thread was bound to cause dissention in the ranks becuase of it. Lets face it most people either loved her or hated her (a bit like cat and dog lovers i suppose). I personally dont care one way or the other she never really did me any direct harm but neither did she do me any good.
Cheers now

Re: Baroness thatcher.
hi.
when i started this thread i fully expected a variety of opinions. But Steve i think you are out of order. If my memory serves me correctly the real reason for the Pit Closures was high production costs. For several years i was a signalman on Merseyrail operating Birkenhead Park Box and i clearly remember coal being shipped into the West Float Dock Bidston i think from Australia Via Rotterdam cheaper than it could be produced here. Was that the fault of the Government, i think the Unions must take some of the blame.
I also remember that the Car plants at Halewood and Ellesmere Port were losing a lot of production due to a bunch of idiots oh sorry Shop Stewards calling strikes for very trivial reasons. again the fault of Government or Union ?
With regard to the riots in Toxteth, and i suppose subsequent ones of course they would be the fault of the Police. It does not matter if the Police were 'heavy handed' that is NO JUSTIFICATION for arson, looting and violence.
While i agree you have every right to express you opinion, which, after all, was the purpose of the thread i would ask you to consider moderating the tone of any further replies on this thread.

Re: Baroness thatcher.
I don't see a problem with Steve's reply, the same and far worse can be read in the papers, even the Tory ones. I don't fully agree with it and I think celebrating someone's death on this scale is pretty barbaric. Were there any celebrations for Bin Laden's death? Who's death was last celebrated in this way in this country, Hitler's?

Re: Baroness thatcher.
I work with an ex miner & like a lot of these nationalised companies they were run very badly with extraordinary costs (MOD !!! £22 for a light bulb). My mate lived near Wrexham but was at times required to work in other pits such as down in Stoke, his pay bonuses travel etc was mega high he say's he made fortune at it & with free coal etc, mind you It was a hard & dangerous job, but his pay & add on's reflected this & he & his family did suffer during the strike. The coal was there & it still is, it just cost to much to get it !!
I have no hassle on having an opinion either way on her policies or how she ran the country, but she is a Mother, Grandmother and she has a family. there are many stories of her personal kindness to staff etc, but I think too many people have been watching too much television of dictators getting overthrown & the burning of effigy's etc is going too far especially by a majority who were very young or not even born when she was in power & had her policies have not affected their lives directly or indirectly in anyway.
( I think we have a much more dangerous man/Government in place now !!).
I used to like the rule..don't talk about politics & religion in the Mess..but there again we're not in The army anymore.
Steve your opinion & your wish to express it I have no problem with. However I do think think the cheap jibe joke with the link to Jimmy Saville that's been texting it's way around the country for the last couple of weeks is out of taste on here.

Re: Baroness thatcher.
I believe part of the problem here is forums in general (admin and mods on here have done the correct thing i believe), they can be very devisive and prompt knee jerk reactions in some cases, as a Global moderator and Admin on a couple of forums i have found you have to be carefull moderating a thread like this lest you be accused of censorship (this has happened to me on a couple of occasions). Whilst i dont fully agree with Steves sentiments i respect his opinion and his right to state it. However i really dont see the need for it on here (sorry Steve but thats my opinion no offence mate). The point made that many who say they hate Maggie were never even born when she was in power is a very valid one, maybe its just what they have picked up from parents that were i dont know. There is no doubt She upset a lot of people the poll tax being a case in point but whats done is done and we cannot now turn back the clock so why worry. Lastly she does deserve to be left alone in death and her familys grief respected as does everyone
Cheers

Re: Baroness thatcher.
Point taken about the jibe it was a cheap shot but as I said if you were serving during the dark days of the Thatcher yrs you would not have fully felt the mood of a lot of the country that were being Thatcherised, As you may be aware the country is split on this is it North/ South I dont know or large working class areas ?. I know a lot of young people dont really know what is was like back in the day but for the folks who suffered under Thatcher we all feel very strongly. As commented its a marmite one Love it or hate it, I have not just made these comments to upset people its how I feel and I respect other peoples opinion so please dont dismiss this as the ranting of a bitter scouser. Richie you said you worked with an ex minor who was lucky he could get the add ons and bonus etc how many ex minors have you spoken to with the opposite opinion because I know they are out there.
Guys I never set out to upset people although I new the comments would be controversial and spark debate and the forums are the place for it verbal or written and mine is the only negative comment or am I the only person who was willing to be open and honest about my feelings.???? Was there another death celebrated in this way I dont think so, I wont be celebrating myself or watching the funeral but have we ever had one of are own done so much damage and caused so much pain and suffering to there own .???
Just one more comment = If I has not made the comments this thread would have just been a Maggie was great thread just because you dont like the comments please dont supress them .
