Dai,
An MP in the House of Commons last year, quoted E Powell's speech and was called a racist and was asked to resign
Re: What good thinks have the political parties done for us in the last 100 years
As no one can find a good example of what our politician do for us, heres some.
I think that the Caerphilly Borough Council do an excellent job in Ystrad Mynach, excellent Police service and PCSOs, they are always on the ground and can been seen. clean streets, good schools, the refuse collection and recycle system is very good. play ground/parks have been cleaned and refurbished so my 2 young boys can play, a good rugby pitch, a new Hospital being built within 200 metres of my home, road surfaces are being renewed. When I go back home, my wife and I shall be working full time, so we will be entitled to get support for private child care/nursery. I can go into Ystrad Mynach Colleage and enroll into evening classes...free of charge, i will be doing some courses when I go back home. Just a few.....
If you cant think of any positive changes our politicans have done in the past 100 years....then what changes would you do, how would you fund such changes, what effect would your changes have.

Stu, that may well be fine for you in the area you are living and with your council. That unfortunatly is not the case for every town or borough in Wales and England - WHY NOT. Why is it that you can boast all of the things that you have mentioned whilst other areas are so run down, no parks for kids to play in because they are used by druggies and alki's leaving smashed bottles and syringes around the place. Why have you got an excellent Police service when, if my car is being jumped on I will get no response, if I clip the yob the law is there to lift me. Why can you in Wales enroll in a college for free but I cannot in England. Why are some areas so badly run down whilst others (such as yours) are thriving. Why are there post code lotteries for medical treatment and drugs.
We all live in the United Kingdom, we all pay the same tax rates yet we are not equal with the "return" that we recieve from Governments. If the politcial parties were doing so well for us there would be some form of equality, instead of the huge gap between the have's and the have nots. As I mentioned before, these people have brought good things about such as the welfare state but have also messed it up. Our Laws and justice system was admired and copied around the world where is it now, the victim has less protection than offender. PCSO's have their place but they should be as well as, not instead of the Bobby on the beat.
Positive changes are only good if they are maintained and remain positive otherwise they are changes for the sake of change. If you have to have a positive view of change (from me anyway) we no longer send children up chimneys to sweep them causing untold damage to their lungs. We do however allow them to get stinking drunk at the age of twelve/thirteen and do untold damage to their livers.

Stu,a lot of good in this country is down to hard working dedicated people who care and try hard to do there best for themselves and others around, not from the i dont care MP,PLEASE look at the expences scandal says it all?
Lofty Mr Powell was purely something i believe would have been right taking the racist away, as i have lots of coloured freinds who do work hard, the problem is the MP to me was right, however you only have to mention something about someone who is not white and you get hammered in this country,i live in London and believe me i can tell you some things,
Gwyn your two posts on this subject have been enjoyable to read spot on,
