Colin go to Pets R Us or some such pet outlet and there is a huge amount of dog shampoo's there that will make them smell sweet until they get wet again. Could be a diet thing, something she's eating is causing skin secretions. Also could be whatever you're using to wash her is causing an enzyme reaction. My Mam's spaniel goes in the sea a lot and he pongs to high heaven, my Mam's used to the stink but it makes my eyes water.
You might want to get her glands checked out too - ears, bottom etc. When infected or impacted they can stink to buggery and because you can't see them, you never think to check them. (My Dad used to breed dogs - some info stuck, haha)
My old lad stank a bit so the wife changed his food to the dry stuff on advice from a friend or the vet not sure which. It did make a huge difference, though it took a while for him to accept the change of diet.
TVM for all the advice, the Mrs will just have to put up with the smell.Pity about dog's smell though (LOL)
