Surely he must of known that wearing 17 medals on the left side would cause someone to ask questions, not to mention the calibre of some of the medals he is wearing.
I find it very very sad that he felt the need to do it.
I doubt very much if he was even allowed to wear the beret and cap badge he was wearing. If I am not mistaken, it is actually a criminal offense to wear medals you have not earned, I also believe the offense carries a term of imprisonment. Perhaps Scouse or any other Police Officer could confirm this.
That was the first thought that came to my mind nasher - but I thought I must be wrong as it would of been mentioned in the news report.
He is even wearing a veterans badge which he probably bought at some market
This has just been on my local news. They are trying to hunt him down. As stated below it is a criminal offense and he could be fined up to £1000. Pity about the imprisonment!

Being a habitual medal spotter you might be quite surprised at how prevalent this is .....
The term "Walter Mitty Syndrome" springs to mind here and apparently it is such a common occurance that some medical proffesionals believe that it is a medical condition suffered by people who live mundane lives. I suppose if someone were to say to sufferers of the condition "get a life", then perhaps that is exactly what they do. Whilst not defending this mans actions, I feel that if it is indeed a medical condition, he perhaps is more to be pitied than mocked or vilified. As for putting the man in jail, well if you remember the lad who urinated on the War memorial and did not get a jail sentence, it would be hard to see it happen here. Some might argue, that even though not entitled to adorn the medals, he was actually taking part in a service of rememberence and not physically and knowingly defiling the memory of the fallen.
