Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
Hi,
I have received a pm from Jim's son, new to the forum, user name BrettB - he's keen to make contact with any of his Dad's mates, regarding his Dad's service.
My own recollection of Jim Crow was, if I remember correctly, A Coy where he was a Battalion Character and I have passed the info onto him.
What I failed to ask, however, was whether Jim was still alive - details that BrettB will have to provide.
Over to the forum.
Bye for now,
Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
Hi Gerry
Jim Crow was in A Coy, and for a very long time was the Arms Storeman. Can remember him being a big caracter in the Bn and he was well know by all.

Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
Now there's a "blast from the past", I remember "JC" very well! As Gerry quite rightly said, he was a L/Cpl in A coy stores and worked with the likes of Des Lewis (CQMS).
I remember him particularly well in Lemgo and on "Medicine Man 3" in Canada in 1980.
His wife was named Lorna (sister of the late Kelvin Probert) son Brett and sister Tammy as I remember. I think there may have been other children, but not sure?
The last time I saw Jim was in 1990 at Cwrt-y-Gollen Trg camp, he was working in the adventure Trg stores as a civillian.
Not heard sight nor sound since!
Regards, Jim.
Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
One thing everyone is sure about, Jim was indeed a caracter. He was also a very staunch member of A Coy club. Said good morning to the birds many a early morning with him in Tidworth!
Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
Jim was arms storeman at Cwrt-y-Gollen when I was there as a J/S..one night there was a **** up in the gym for all depot members of the RWF..JCW was the depot adjutant and came over to our table to talk to us..he was asking questions about the regiment when was it formed etc..when Jim leaned over and cut his tie in half..we all thought the world had come to an end Jim just sat there laughing..What a Character
Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
Thanks to those who replied, my dad is still alive and well.... He had another twp boys called Michael & David. He misses the life and since he left his gut has gone up loads.
Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
Jim was a big part of Alphas from the mid 70's through till the late 1980's in Tidworth, Lemgo, Warminster, Ternhill and Ballykinlar. There are a couple of pictures of him in the Gallery. Your dads armoury in Lemgo provided a sanctuary for many an errant Fusilier, who'd been given the choice of dixies or the armoury with JC.
In Lemgo one of my room mates Andy Ruffley used to babysit for you. Andy is a member of this site. I can remember you as a kid. I have a hazy recollection of you running around in a combat suit...possibly Ballykinlar!!
Welcome to the Forum Brett.
Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
Hi Brett
As I said earlier, I knew your dad. I also knew you as a youngster,my two kids are Trudy and Neil, and both were with me and wife till we left Bn in Ballykinler.
If I not mistaken, you also know Danny Smith and Jason Sh\aw.
Re: Jim Barton (aka Jim Crow)
I also remember your dad from Lemgo, arms storeman. He was also part of OC rover group in Belfast 81 with Colin 31 and Jones 50. A very good character and man. Welcome to the forum.
