ZULU

Hi All,

I recently read about the film ZULU as being voted one of the best films in a poll. I would much prefer The Wizard of OZ. When you take your grand children to see OZ you know you have seen a good fairy story. With Zulu, you and the children are not sure what you have paid good money to see. A better film is The Battle Ship Potemkin, this was made in 1926 and is a silent movie and as such does not contain the PORKIES mentioned in Zulu. Here are some comments and facts about ZULU.

I hasten to add that I would like to pay tribute to all the men who fought and died in this campaign especially the detachment of “B” Company the 2nd Battalion the Warwickshire regiment

:laugh:I would certainly prefer to take my kids to watch zulu,Wizard of oz,the lion man,Tin man etc,come on now,your having a laugh,anyway whats your point.

thanks for that jungle1810 when ever i watch it in the future it will be like watching Titanic and finding out half way through the ship sinks

Come on, how many of the "Great Epics" were factually correct? Tora Tora Tora, Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge Over the River Kwai, The Great Escape. Surely if all movies were made purely on the facts they would all be documentaries and would have very little commercial or entertainment value. Was not the Charge of the Light Brigade a total cock-up that turned out alright in the end (and a Battle Honour to boot)? I grew up on all these classics and still enjoy watching them today for what they are- School boy adventure. How sad that you view a movie to find fault rather than accept it as ENTERTAINMENT.

Whilst at the Depot Crickhowell as a Junior Soldier for just under three years (1971/73), I can remember being marched to the Gym on the evening of evey Rorkes Drft day to watch the film Zulu. It was a scale "A" parade so it did not matter if you were RWF or RRW you were in the gym to watch the film. (Probably because the C.O & RSM at the time were RRW). I can say that this film portrayed courage beyound anything that most of us can probably comprehend and I for one salute all those who took part in this action.

Something else that I enjoyed so much was the naration by Richard Burton who may I say went on to star in another excellent film being the "Wild Geese" and as anyone will know he wore the RWF cap badge in that film. (What does that tell you)! Furthermore I am pretty sure that the LSGCM was not issued to Pte Hook or anyone else in 1879. Perhaps someone can say when it was issued. Let it go this was a classic.

I can remember going to see Zulu in the Regent Cinema in Ely cardiff i was about 10 years old and i didnt move a muscle all the way through and i still think its one of the best films ever made as others have said its what it represents not any historical facts that makes it a tribute to the bravery of british soldiers be they Welsh, English, Scotish or Irish.

How many years ago was that I rember seeing it for the first time when I was about 14. That was on t.v:biglaugh:

Lets be straight about this, this film was made to p** every Royal Welchman off once a year in the depot. Once a year, an instructor (normally RRW) would burst into our rooms and say with extreme excitement "guess what your watching today". Talk about the paras in arnhem!
