We've very sad news to report here. Gwynne Woodward has lost his brave battle against cancer.
Doctors give him three weeks to live; however, Gwynne has apparently dealt with the diagnosis very well. All we can do is hope and pray that Gwynne, against all hope, overcomes this illness. Our prayers are with him, his wife Jill and his family.
Gwynne was, I believe, Chief Clerk or Orderly Room Sergeant with the 1st Battalion at some stage.
Gwynne was ORS in Bn, he finished his time wih the Bn and left Army at Shorncliffe, where he settled in
Cheriton running the local post office.
It is a sad time for the members of the same age group as myself, losing Curley recently and now about to loose Gwynne.
Gwyne was the last Chief Clerk that I had the privilege to work under. He was Chief Clerk of 1 RRW when I returned to the Bn on the Cardiff Tattoo in 1979, and he was still there when I left in 1980. He was an excellent person to work for a really genuine man. Same sad news about Curly, he used to live just around the corner from where I live prior to him joining the Army. I can still remember that last pint I had with him in the Eagles in Denbigh. A Brilliant Bloke, who will be sorely missed. I wish his family well.
Very sad news about another great character from my era - worrying!
I was in the Orderly Room with Gwynne in Ebrington Barracks, Londonderry, then he was posted off to Maindy Barracks where my wife and I used to visit him and his first wife in married quarters there, from the Welsh Depot, where I had been posted from Tidworth. There is an excellent photo of Gwynne in the gallery, on the night of Tom Griffiths' (70) uplifting from the Sgts to the Offrs Mess while we were in 'Derry.
A genuinely good guy who will be sorely missed - let us all pray that his own uplifting, if it has to be as a result of this illness, is peaceful and pain free.
I've just seen on the RRW Vets Site, that Gwynne Wodward Passed away last night 25/6/08. Message was posted by Maj Mike Hooley. I served under Gwyne in Aldershot, and he was a really Great person, and a true Gentlman. R.I.P Mate. Braz
Another great friend gone. Chris and I were friends with Gwynne and his 1st wife when we were in Honiton
and we met him and his 2nd wife when I was in Shorncliffe. I know that he will be missed by alot of friends from both the Royal Welch and the RRW.

I received the news of dear Gwynne, untimely death with much sadness and heavy heart. My thoughts are with his family and Friends at this time of sadness. I shall arrange for prayers to be said and a candle lit at the Regimental Chapel St Giles Wrexham, on behalf of all his Regimental Family. Gwynne was much loved within the Regiment, and I have many happy memories of him, spanning over many years. Visiting the Bn Ord Room was always a trick mission, you could be challenge by: Co, Adj, S-Maj, RSM, and others, however having a friendly agent within was always helpful, Gwynne was that friendly agent and he was an excellent ambassador to us all.

Oh dear, another sad chapter to be recorded in the Regimental Historical Records.
In the past two weeks I have learned from the forum the demise of Ted Doutch, Curly Cluer and latterly my mate Gwynne Woodward. All good chums during my service life and, I might add, all younger than me (I am 66yrs).
Gwynne was a good pal during the time that we served together in various Orderly Rooms and Int Cells along with the following forum members: Bob Bacon, Tony Corbett, Keith Jones 89, Roger Ball 01, to name a few, and I just can't take it on board that he has gone at such a young age.
I am medically pedestrian at the moment but will certainly be attending Gwynne's funeral, if it's in Cardiff, I will be travelling down by rail, and, once funeral detail are firm, would appreciate a route card from the Railway Station to wherever the Service is taking place.
In the meantime, howewer, now that I am a member of the Birmingham Branch of the RRW Association, please pass on our sincere condolences to Gwynne's Family.
Our Sympathy goes out to Gwynne's family and friends at this sad time.

Gwynne's funeral will take place at St Augustin's Church, Rumney, Cardiff at 1300hrs on Monday, 7th July followed by cremation at Thornhill at 1415hrs.
By family request no flowers (family flowers only). Donations can be made to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The Warrent Officers & Sgt's Mess of the 3rd Bn Royal Welsh (Maindy Bks) will be open from 1400hrs - all welcome.
Branch Standards from both Regimental Associations will be most welcome at the church and crematorium. Veterans who wish to attend are welcome and are asked to wear their Regimental Blazers & medals.
