96868 WATKIN Robert Owen - WW2

My Dad died in 1986, but I knew very little about his 39-45 days. He married on 24 October 1939 as a 2nd Lieutenant and I believe he was ex-TA. My Mum and he seemed to have travelled around the UK, Catterick, Aldershot and I recall something about Portland Bill. I don't think he served abroad, but there was a mention that he was ready to ship to India.
My son (his Grandson) has a WW2 project project, and I have very little of family involvement to give him.

Any information would be appreciated.

No mention of your father in Red Dragon, although that is not unusual. Why not get your son to apply for his grandfathers service record as part of the project. Visit the following site http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html, download the Kinship form, complete it, then send it off to the following address with a cheque for £30. It will take a few months for the records to arrive, and we will be happy to help you make sense of them. Meanwhile if you have any more small detail about his service, let us know, as little snippets often tell us quite a lot.

I have had a reply from "unithistories" website. His Officer number was 96868, and he was a ws/Lieutenant 02.03.1941 and then t/Captain 23.01.1942. He left before 04.1946 as an Honorary Captain.
So we are making some progress !
