Major AJ Perkins
The following message was sent to us via the Royal Welch Forum Contact Us form by Bob Simcock.
--------------------------------
Hope you can help me. Am looking for an old friend Major AJ Perkins probably made Lt Col/Col/Brig.
He was Maj when we last met up; I last saw him about 1985 at Whittington Barracks, Litchfield.
I would like to make contact with him again. Sorry if this is not the corect way to proceed, but have tried many other ways to find him.
Thanks
Bob Simcock - Ex Household Cavalry Regt

Re: Major AJ Perkins
Dear Bob,
Tony was a dear friend of mind who commanded D Coy 1RWF, in Lemgo BAOR. I too have not been in contact with him for over a decade.
His last known address was :
Long Close
The Cockyard
Wormbridge
HEREFORD
HR2 9EF
If he has moved on I think you will track him down via Hereford Cathederal School, with whom he had close contact with both via his children and possibility his work.

Ifan, Many thanks for the information, it is a start, which is more than I have had so far.
Also, many thanks to Bob Bacon for taking the time to pass on my request.

Re: Major AJ Perkins
I'd also like to find out how Tony Perkins (Perky) is doing. He was my platoon commander in JIB Shorncliffe when I was in the Welch regt. He convinced me to transfer to RWF and was then my platoon commander in the sigs once I joined the regt in Hong Kong. What a great bloke and he loved a good drink in the Dragon (or anywhere else for that matter). I'm sure he is in some of the photos I sent in to the site.
I hope he is in good health. If you have luck in finding him Bob please pass on the contact to me.
Cheers

Re: Major AJ Perkins
He was DELTA Coy Comd (as a Capt) when I joined the Bn in 75, he was a real character, a big guy (mind you everyone is big to me).

Re: Major AJ Perkins
There's a wealth of stories about him(known to the boys as Perky). If I remember rightly at one point he was OC Senior Div at Brecon,(somewhere like that) and he had an excellent reputation.
Deltas absolutely worshiped him when he was their OC in Lemgo. During Battalion p***ups they always sang " Major Perkins is our OC, Major Perkins never fails", I think they meant it.........
Stories about Perky please(printable and non-libelous)

Re: Major AJ Perkins
Dilwyn,
I too remember Major Perkins in our JIB days he also got me to transfer into the The Royal Welch Fusiliers and join the Bn in Hong Kong. What a true gentleman, If I recall he had a scar over his eye and he used to tell us young Junior Soldiers the story on how he got we were mesmerised, but when I joined the Bn I heard the true story off some of his fellow Officers'. I feel it was a honour to served with a Stalwart of the RWF. I often wondered what he is doing now?
Bob, good luck in your quest.

Re: Major AJ Perkins
He was worshiped and well thought of Al, by all members of DCoy (IOC) while we lived under the gym in Lemgo. I remember one xmas morning after one humungus p**s up we had in the rat hole while it was Deltas turn to do camp guard over the xmas holidays. Perky and Wally 15 (CSM) came in to inspect us to see if we were all ok, i wont repeat the exact words but needless to say they both woke us all up in an instant - the whole company. Thought we were all going to get jailed!! Far from it!! Why werent we invited u bunch of W***ers, where upon we started at it again. Then to Wallys house for xmas dinner - brill!!
good memories
