Tour of France

This year the October trip from Swansea saw 52 people travel to Caen in Normandy for a tour of the landing beaches. It was a more strenuous trip than normal in that we departed Swansea at 2.15 p.m to travel to Caen by overnight ferry from Portsmouth.

Thank you for that, as I am sorting out a Battle Field Tour (now known as a Staff Ride) to Normandy in May next year, for the MPGS and RAF Police Flight at RAF Valley. So any hints or tips about itinerary's or any thing else would be very welcome.

Hi Mike my father inlaw belongs to a 2 WW reenactment group whom dress in period uniforms British German & US with vehicles, well looked after vehicles, its around May or June in the Picardie area of France, its quite impressive judging from the photos I have seen.

Each year they have a veteran of WW2 invited as the guest of honor,

The membership is controlled and rank is actually issued to a structure to avoid to many 5 star general, Most of the members are ex Forces one or two from the UK.

I will contact him and confirm dates if you are interested and also this goes for any other group or association that may be interested?

Do not stop and drink Calvados before 6pm - or you will be unable to carry on.

The cemetaries are impressive and very sad. There is a german monument, kind of off the beaten track and nt very well signposted (at least not 10 or so years ago) but well worth a visit if you can locate it.

Cheers Barry, I will keep that in mind, we are just sorting out the itinerary's now and a lot will depend on how many days we are over there for as we work a 4 day shift it will put a bit of a limit on how many days we we can be in country with travel and everything else. We are trying to sort out with the other shift to do a 5 day rotation for that week to give us an extra day.

Is the guest of honor you this year then?

Me and a couple of mates are thinking of shooting across to France in 2008 to do the battlefield tour anyone been, any pointers.
