The wearing of the Red Poppy is a mark of respect of those who we respect and remember, these people who you are on about shar are as bad and narrow minded as the local council's who where going to charge for the clearing up of poppy's after parades which was mentioned in the tabliods a few weeks ago.

hi sharon..well to be honest i havent seen a white poppy.sheltered life maybe...No but to be honest i have not worn a red poppy for years i feel that i dont.need to.as my memories are allways with me..not just once a year!!..i do give though...WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET THE FALLEN..

Sorry for the ignorance, is the white poppy worn by people who remember the dead but don't agree with war? Or am I getting confused with something else? if anyone can enlighten me it would be appreciated. Cheers.

It's original meaning was I believe a symbol of peace as no more war. However, I hear from many Brit friends that many anti-military organisations and individuals are using the symbol to make statements for their own ends. What do you think?

Had a bit of a read up on it. Seems to me that they are not meant to lessen the memorial of the dead, but to remember them whilst wanting no more wars.(The original idea of the white poppy).

I dont really see the point in white poppies to be honest. By wearing our red poppies it does not mean we actively 'encourage' war, it just means that we remember those that have made the sacrifice, and I would also like to think that it also shows our support for those involved in conflicts in the present day.

I suspect that the original idea of the white poppy has been hijacked somewhat by the do gooders of the present day. Unfortunately, they probably dont appreciate the fact that if it were not for the people who have made the sacrifice, and still do to this day, then they may not have the freedom of choice that they now enjoy!!

That is the point I made on our Caergybi forum. Like many peaceful symbols originally used for other purposes, this one is being manipulated into meaning something else in the eyes of the media and the layman.

Hi Sharon,
As I understand it the white poppy was hijacked if I may use that word by left wing groups, in particular when they were stronger the Communist Party, it was involved many years ago.
In Colwyn Bay some years ago a RBL member who was a member of the Communist Party turned up in the Club wearing a white poppy, it caused a lot of ill feeling at the time.
Members did not object to the persons right to wear a white poppy, it was the manner and time that it was worn which upset people.
