Louis Williams

I have been working alongside a lady who's brother Louis Williams was once in the battalion.
Louis was killed many years ago whilst serving with the battalion ....im sure you all remember better than i do. He was 22 when he died.

In the cpl's mess in Berlin.....Louie's mess dress was in a glass case. This....the family knew nothing about. Al informs me that there is a Boxing Belt handed out to the best novice boxer. Rose will be thrilled to hear about this.
Louie's name was added to a war memorial that they have up in Rhosgadfan (just outside Caernarfon).....hopefully Rose will be able to get me a photo to pass on to the site.

Lou was a True Royal Welch Fusilier, such a tragic death and yes I do recall the boxing belt I only wonder if the 1st Bn have time now to hold novice boxing? Perhaps Beefy 22 could give us an answer?
Tell Rose that Lou was a great soldier and sportsman for the Royal Welch Fusiliers and she and the family should proud that his name is upon a memorial in his home town.

Would this be Lou 25, because i remember the day he died (we were there). We all in Deltas at the time went up to his memorial outside Caernafon. He was one of the nices men i have ever had the privalage of knowing. He would do anything for you if you were in a bit of trouble and wouldn't even bat an eyelid at doing it. I know because he helped me out in Lemgo once.

i trained with lou when he was back squadded through injury and as rog says a true gent with a heart of gold yet an iron man to boot nothing to much trouble and a great fella to have around , sorely missed

How do you begin to discribe Louis. What a man a true Royal Welch Man and an outstanding person. I rember living opposite him in Lemgo when Deltas moved into the new accommodation after Detmold. One Friday night, one of the lads (cant rember who) had a problem and needed to Get home Louis never batted an eye lid and drove him all the way to Zebbruge for the ferry and back again. His fitness level when he started boxing was beyond belif and what memories of his bouts in the novices for Deltas and when representing the battalion. I was aslo at the funeral along with the vast majority of the Delta lads at the time and rember the effection felt by all those who new him not only in the Bn but also in his home town. An amazing night was had after in the TA centre bar in Carnarvon by all. Fantastic to see he is remembered in his home town in this way. Please pass on to his sister my regards he was one of the best Royal Welch Men I have ever known.

That bloke he drove to Zebbruge was me, Roger Littlehales. Nice post Beano! How you doin.

Thanks for this. 25 was one of my Lance Corporals in 11 Platoon; Sgt Davies 34 (my Platoon Sergeant) and I were with him when he died - we did our best but he was beyond medical help. He was one of the top blokes in 11 Platoon and Deltas; in fact he represented the tough fighting spirit, never-say-die attitude that was the hallmark of Deltas at that time. He was also a genuine, amusing and generous man. He was one of the strongest people I've met and he was very helpful and encouraging to me as a very young 'subbie' fresh out of the factory in Belfast on the '81 tour. A top man, who I still remember now, and one who deseerves to be remembered into the future.

I only remember Louie as a young man around Caernarfon when on leave. He must have been about 10 years older than me. His youngest brother Danny was in my year in school.
When i got married and moved to Berlin .....one of the first things i saw in the mess was his suit. I only wish now that i had taken a photo of it for the family.
Should anyone have any photos of him ...the boxing belt....or the suit then im sure the family would really appreciate them.
Seems such a small thing to all of us.....but would mean the world to them.

I shared a room with Lou for a long time, he used constantly change the room around moving beds etc & to many other stories to cover here, after returning from Canada I packed up all his kit & belongings & sent it to the respective locations.
On the memorial day I carried the wreath in DELTA Coy colours ( B****y heavy), it was a bit of a tab to the graveyard & as I was leading the local comrades behind me kept sending me up the wrong way then calling me back, The most moving moment was when we were beside the grave, the last post was blown, & the Legion Colours were lowered.
After the service I went to Lou's Mum & Dads & had dinner with them (God he lived up in the sticks).. I also kept in touch with his Girlfriend for a while.
I have made enquiries on this Forum about his home etc I have made a note of them & fully intend to pay him a visit, are his parents still alive ??
