Green [Khaki] socks that replaced the Grey ones we had originally....
KF Shirts. Shirts Itchy. Army Underpants, Drawers Dracula. Bloody awful things
Couldnt you have hours of fun Blanco ing those 37 Pattern Belts and Gaiters, pollishing the brasses on the belt, trying not to get Brasso on the blancoed bits you had just done, when doing those fiddly little buckles. Cutting holes in cardboard to fit the straps on those gaiters so you could polish them. Having that button stick that didnt have the right holes to do any of the above.
KF shirts especially worn with full BD,s
Ammo boots, had to be broken in, let in water throught the stitched on soles, hammering in those studs in the regimental; geometric pattern. Made a great sound on the square, not so good out in the field.
Those 'Kapok' filled sleeping bags from the early days, warm until wet then weighed a ton to carry, no waterproofing on the bottom like the later ones. Throw your 'Gas kape' [prior to the poncho type groundsheets that came later] on the ground, climb into the bag, soaked through within the hour. Ok in warmer conditions. Still better than having to take a couple of blankets out of your issued bedding to do the same job though.
Those BAOR Parkas were great, nice and warm when needed, not sure why they had those buuton on hoods though?
