Re: National identity cards
i do not see how anybody can vote twice, you register you get sent a voting registration slip take it to the polling station, they check it then issue the relevant slips with the runners and riders on,and your name is ticked of the register. The only way i can see them getting to vote twice is to use there own and then use somebody else,s registration card, the somebody else being stupid for disenfranchising his or her self. The government did announce at the next election whenever that is,is that voters will have to produce identity to prove who they are, that is unless all the do gooders in this country put the mockers on it
Re: National identity cards
What they do is register at their halls of residence and also at their home address hence they get two voting cards
Re: National identity cards
The voting cards in England clearly state that you don't actually need to take the card with you. The only country on the planet where you don't have to prove your identity when voting (I belong to a lobbying group who have had this topic very near the top of our list for decades!).
Re: National identity cards
Just watching sky news covering the elections in Kenya a third world country that has a better system then ours when you go to vote, they have an identity card which has your finger print on it you produce that your finger print is then taken on a scanner to prove it matches the one on the identity card you can then vote.Maybe we should learn from them.

That is a very good idea finger print and add photograph as well.
Re: National identity cards
Unfortunately civil liberties will be up in arms about it
Re: National identity cards
I think it's about time the Government told Civil Liberties etc where to get off. I think it's a Brilliant idea that we should all have an ID Card with Fingerprint etc on. It would clamp down on illegals, terrorists and Dole/Houssing Benefit Cheats. So go for it and bugger Public Opinion. Thats all the Government are afraid of anyway.
