A mate of mine exRWF, looking at his Grandfather who served with the 1st Bn during the Great War. In the 1911 census, we find him living with his siblings and parents near Wrexham. One of his brothers has the middle name "Mafeking" !!
Have found the following : A Thomas Edge living in Erbistock in 1911, born Malpas, however, given his age this would be the father of the Thomas in question. Found another Thomas Edge, born Wrexham 14.10.1893 and died Wrexham 1970. Note : There is a family with the surname of Edge still residing in Malpas today.
Edge is a very common name around here (Wrexham/Malpas). There is a place called Edge near Malpas as well.
Thanks Welchboy and Taff for your efforts! I must apologize for a big mistake though, he is Thomas Wedge, not Edge. As far as I know he was born in High Ercall, Shropshire.
He was one of 26 RWF soldiers in the relief of Mafeking.
