Re: 15372 Sgt. Robert John Roberts
I posted some info on him when this was on FB and shared it. Here is his MIC, though I am not sure it helps.

Re: 15372 Sgt. Robert John Roberts
His Commonwealth Grave documents show him at the time of death to have been with the 10th Battalion. not sure if this will help narrow the search.
Re: 15372 Sgt. Robert John Roberts
Unfortunately there's not a lot in terms of military documents that will help achieve your objective regarding his family. However, the local website Y Ffor (more below) looks to be the way forward.
His Soldiers Died Great War reads: Born Tydweiliog, reside Pwllheli, enlist Cefnamlwch.
His Soldiers Effects Register shows payments to his sole legate, his mother, Margaret Roberts.
Looking at the 1911 Census for a Robert John Roberts/mother Margaret/living that area of Lleyn turns up a family of Roberts at Monachdy, Tydweiliog. Father, Robert Roberts 54yrs, mother Margaret Roberts 43 yrs and six children which includes Robert John Roberts 16yrs.
Turning to the website Y Ffor
(Main Page = http://www.yffor.com/ )
The webowner Keith Parry has a War Memorials section and in that he has the following
http://www.yffor.com/rhyfel/rhyfel1418.html
| 402 |
Rbt John |
Roberts |
15372 |
RWF 10th |
21 |
20/07/1916 |
Delville W Cem Longueval |
Tudweiliog (B) |
Mab Rbt a Margaret Rbts, Monachdy |
Given the lack of info in the military docs Keith must have some local info that links 15372 to The Monachdy Roberts.
It might be that he is mentioned on the family grave at Tydweiliog. In the Cemeteries section of the site are the various burial books for a good chunk of Lleyn and in the Tydweiliog one can be found quite a few of the Monachdy Roberts' : the father Robert Roberts 11 4 1913 aged 56, John Dec 1914 aged 17, Thomas 30 11 1930 aged 30, the mother, Margaret 22 11 1956 aged 89 and Mary (Jones) 23 12 1972 aged 79.
I suggest then that the way forward for Alwyn is to get in touch with Keith Parry of that website.
(not turning anything up in the papers)
Re: 15372 Sgt. Robert John Roberts
Hi Folks.
Family search is coming up with a puzzle. The only death it is showing on 20 july 16 at this location in a John J Roberts. Not Robert John. in your #5 the extraction in column 6 it gives the figure 21. i am assuming that is an age. which is correct for this man. But i am wondering if he would have been a Sgt at 21.however a further search gives me. this is from the 1901 census. which is what you have Hywyn
Robert Roberts Head M 43 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
Margred Roberts Wife F 32 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
Mary Roberts Daughter F 7 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
Robert John Roberts Son M 6 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
John Roberts Son M 3 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
Thomas Roberts Son M 1 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
Ellen Thomas Servant F 24 Nevin, Carnarvonshire
John Roberts M 16 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
John Williams Servant M 17 Tydweiliog, Carnarvonshire
have to go out for a while.but will continue later.

hi.
Been looking at the possibilities regarding the ''Monachdy'' connection.
Ordinance Survey map shows a Farm named Mynachdy a short distance to the North of Tudweiliog. north of a village called Rhos -y- llan.

Hi
Just out of interest. Mynachdy translates into English as Convent. Monastery or Cloister.

Re: 15372 Sgt. Robert John Roberts
Yes, that's the family in the 1901 census Ivor. They are still there in the 1911.
You wouldn't find his death in the UK GRO Death Register under the local area. He's in the GRO Oveseas Index. They don't give an age though.
Sgt at 21 would not be unique.
Of the 10445 RWF casualties on CWGC 407 have the rank Sgt and of these 233 show an age. There are 5 x 19 yr olds, 13 x 20 yr olds and 13 x 21 year olds.
(Captains: 1 x 19, 3 x 20 and 6 x 21)
