4RWF - Wintelre 1944

Hi to you all.
My name is Trevor Powell I served with the Berkshire regiment (DERR) from 1980 to 1990 as did my grandfather in WW1 and 2 and my Father WW2.
I have just received my fathers world war 2 Army record the record shows that he served sometime with the 4th batt Royal welsh fusiliers unfortunately my dad died in the 90s so I can ask him.
I am trying to find the unit war diaries for 4RWF and to find out where he was, nearest village etc.
He served with 4RWF from 13 June 1944 was wounded on the 21 Sept 1944 and was sent home on the 25 Sept 1944.
somethings I do know.
The war dead of his unit on or around 21 Sept 44 are in Valkenswaard war cemetery Noord-Brabant Netherlands
I hope you may help me find out more on this investigation.

Have a look in "Red Crown and Dragon" by Patrick Delaforce. According to this 4th RWF attacked the village of Wintelre (west of Eindhoven) on the 20th, which they captured after two days. They suffered 80 casualties. If you have difficulty in finding the book, send me a PM and I'll send the relevant passage by email.

See below, a couple of PDF's for you to download, taken from the book "Red Dragon" by PK Kemp and John Graves, published in 1960, available from Abe Books for about £20-£30.

It covers the RWF in WW2, and follows the 4th, 6th & 7th Bns, throughout their war service. As an ex soldier, you will have a fascinating journey as the TA Battalions, untested in war, land on about the 23rd June and then commence the fight through France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany. Have a good look at Evrecy in mid July 1944, their first real test, in a bloody helpless situation. Your Father would have been with them!
