Strange one this Bob. From what I understand, his real crime was to lie to Martin Johnson, in regards to where he had been on the night in question. Then of course CCTV footage emerged, which punched a hole in his story. I think it says more about the England setup, that it is nearly a month later that they finally take action.
i wonder, could we be seeing some pressure from high palaces sorry places (oops sorry about the typo )
Something had to happen after that debacle in NZ. I suppose given his high profile and his age career wise he is an ideal sacrificial goat. I would have preferred to see the youngsters like Ashton made an example of, they are the future and are the ones who believe they are legends in their own lifetime. Something that England and Rugby in general can do without. When you consider the football team, which Racist (alledgedly)/prostitute using/adulterer do you pick as a Captain days after complaining about not being able to wear the sacred poppy on their shirts. What suprises me, is that MJ is still in a job especially as you see the re-run of the interview "so rugby player drinks beer".... really missed the boat there for a man who needed to show he was firmly at the helm.
The fine I think is a disgusting amount of money which shows another side of the arrogance of the modern game. There are Criminal offences that do not carry the same punishments to achieve that amount of money and whilst I'm sure he can afford it, I think it is way over the top and wont placate the purist Rugby fan who just wants the game of Rugby to keep its previous high standards in the sporting world.
