Payment protection insurance (ppi)

Hi members,

Back in the early 80's, I took out a debit card with Lloyds bank, whilst a Chief Clerk with the TA, purley to pay for my fuel whilst on weekend training.

My Debit Card had no real signifance other than providing a back up - I used it when I didn't have immediate access to my current account.

Encouraged by the media regarding the mis-selling of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI), I contacted one of the Agencies providing their services.

Today, I have received a letter from LloydsTSB regarding a settlement of £2597.30p for mis-sold PPI.

I think the forum is the epitome of the passage of information.

Go for it - check your PPI's.

Nice one Gerry, i finished paying a loan about 4 months ago and people have been telling me to claim for missold PPI,the problem is my bank have been good to me over the years i have been with them, but i am starting to think yes,why not give it a go, your post has made up my mind, i will let you know how i get on.

I to have put a claim in for PPI, they told me that the case could take upto 16 weeks, if you don't mind me asking did it take that long for you?

As I feel that I've been "left in the dark" over this.

When applying for a refund make sure you do not pay anyone forthe service - go to the bank who sold it to you and make your claim via them

There are too may companies out there that "provide a service" which they charge yopu for when you can do it yourself for free!!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you.

I started my claim in Nov 10. At that time, banks were contesting claims and appealing to the High Court regarding settlement. To this end, claimants were advised to engage professions legal representation, which I did.

The Solicitor I engaged - no win no fee, provided a package which included questionnaires etc plus a document of authorization for them to proceed. I also had to complete a document agreeing to a fee of 20% should they be successful. At that time, with the climate between the banks, High Courts, ombudsman etc, I signed the document and didn't think much more about it.

In May this year, I received a letter from the Solicitor informing me that the High Court had ruled against the banks and claims were being submitted to the ombudsman who would rule accordingly. I was also informed that the procedure would probably take between 12 to 16 weeks as some banks were dragging their heels.

I received a letter from my bank on 28th Jul confirming payment would be made into my account within 21 working days.

Banks have now, however, as a result of the High Court ruling, amended their rules, including online banking, where claimants can download the respective questionnaire, and claim directly through the bank thereby cutting out the middleman (Solicitors etc) - they also advise that the procedure can take anything between 12 to 16 weeks.

Steve is quite right regarding current claims where customers can go directly to their bank and claim through them. However, when I initiated my claim banks were not tolerating claims from customers as they were appealing the High Court - hence my seeking legal representation at the time should the High Court rule in favour of the banks.
