Arboretum visit Arlewas.
Hello All,
Seven members the Bridgend branch RWFCA accompanied by Sgt "Chippy" Woods A C F 3rd battalion, and a selected member of the ACF 3rd battalion, Dirk Caulfield of Porthcawl. We met up with an old friend of mine ex C.S.M. John MacCormack late of the 1st & 2nd Battalions RWF who lives in Lichfield. The party split up into small groups to wend their way around to visit the sites that held a particular interest to them. On this visit we also met some of the party from the S.W.B I believe they were from Pontypool and totalled about 40 members including the distaff side of the branch, as did our party. A good time was had by all concerned. My interest was mainly "The shot at dawn" corner", which held the names and Regiments of the 309 men who suffered the death penalty for trivial offences in most cases. The exception was that some were charged with murder. The day passed only too quick but we saw what we wanted to. As a point of interest it is intended to put a railway spur line into or near the Arboretum in the near future.Photos will be placed on the forum asap. This was the branches third visit.
Regards R.B.D aka jungle1810.
