Date and place of RWF entry
Hi
Ihve a relative Robert Griffiths Joyce who was in the 1st Ballion of RWF and died in South Africa at a place called Hlangwane in 1900 and is buried in Colensu cemetery.
His army number was 2518.
The information is required to complete his entry in our family tree
Shropshire and Denbighshire Joyce Family Tree
Many thanks

Re: Date and place of RWF entry
2518 Pte Robert Griffith Joyce was killed in action 25/02/1900 at Horse Shoe Hill. The notes on my USB stick say that there is more information in the Regimental Records, Vol II, page 237, but I'm not at home at the moment so cannot check that.
His number would indicate that he joined in August 1889.
Hope this helps.
John
Re: Date and place of RWF entry
I'm also away. The 2nd Bn fought in South Africa. From memory, i'm sure regimental records mentions that the 1st Bn send out a detachment to assist them? Maybe he was part of that group
Re: Date and place of RWF entry
Many thanks. I now have all the information regarding his death.
My next problem is that I thought he had joined up for the duration of the Boer War but it seems this is not the case, so I am now after his army records. You get the answer to one question and up comes another. Such is life'
