Two soldiers have been arrested after a ‘tank’ was allegedly stolen on an Army base and filmed on a £100,000 joyride, leaving crumpled civilian cars in its wake.

Sources told The Sun the troops had been drinking off base before returning to Tidworth Camp in Wiltshire and stealing the armoured personnel carrier (APC), which has a top speed of 32mph.

Last Post & Funeral Notice: Howie Williams (RWF)

It is with deep regret that we inform the Regimental family of the passing of Mr Howie Williams, who passed away on the 01st of July 2026, at the age of 63
Cpl 24714291 Howie Williams joined the 1st Battalion, The Royal Welch Fusiliers in 1984 at Tern Hill, Market Drayton, where he was assigned to 12 Platoon, D Company.

During his time at Tern Hill, Howie deployed on operational tours to the Falkland Islands in 1985 and Northern Ireland on Operation Cara Cara in 1986. He also took part in a winter exercise in Washington State, USA, where his platoon won the coveted Top Dog competition.

The funeral service will take place on Thursday, the 30th of July 2026, at 13:30hrs at Pentrebychan Crematorium, Pentre-Bychan Rd, Rhostyllen, Wrexham LL14 4EP. Following the service, the family invites attendees to attend a reception at Maesgwyn Hall, Mold Rd, Wrexham LL11 2AF.

Howie requested that those wishing to attend his funeral be offered the option to wear sports tops or football or rugby shirts.

Branch Standard Bearers are invited to attend, if possible.

Standard Bearers, Guard of Honour and Association Members, Dress: Regimental Blazer, Tie and Headdress with Medals.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Getting your old photos onto the forum is easy once you know how. Follow these simple steps to upload images directly from your computer, phone, or tablet.

1. Preparing Your Photo

  • Format: Make sure your photo is saved as a JPEG, JPG, or PNG file.
  • File Size: Large digital camera images can sometimes fail to upload. If your file is huge, try taking a screenshot of it on your phone or resizing it to speed up the upload.



2. If You Are on a Mobile Phone or Tablet (Easiest Method)
If you have photos saved in your phone's gallery or camera roll:

  • Tap the Reply button or start a new thread.
  • Look for the toolbar above the text box and tap the Image Icon (usually looks like a tiny picture of a tree, a camera, or a postcard).
  • Select Upload from Device / Choose File.
  • Your phone will ask if you want to open your Photo Library or Take a Photo. Choose your library and select the picture.
  • Tap Upload or Insert. The photo code will appear in your text box.



3. If You Are on a Computer (vBulletin Editor)
Depending on which view of the forum you are using, choose one of these two methods:

Method A: The Quick Toolbar

  • Click the Insert Image icon on the formatting toolbar above your text box.
  • In the window that pops up, select the From Computer tab.
  • Click Basic Uploader or Browse/Choose File to find the photo on your hard drive.
  • Click Upload File(s).


Method B: The Attachment Manager (For multiple photos)

  • Scroll down below the main text box where you type your post.
  • Look for the section called Additional Options.
  • Click the Manage Attachments button.
  • A new window will open. Click Add Files in the top right corner, then Select Files to find your pictures.
  • Click Upload Files, and when finished, click Done at the bottom right.



⚠️ Troubleshooting: Why won't my picture upload?

  • "File too large": Your image resolution might be too high. Try cropping the image slightly or taking a screenshot of it on your phone to lower the file size.
  • "Invalid File": Ensure your file ends in .jpg or .png. Files like .heic (from newer iPhones) or .pdf will not display as images.

Welcome to the Flashback forum!

This space is dedicated to digging up old memories, tracking down old muckers, and putting names to the faces in our personal archives. Whether it's a blurry photo from a tour in Northern Ireland, a formal platoon group photo from Berlin, or a messy night out in Cyprus, we want to see it.

To help everyone get the most out of this section and help identify as many people as possible, please follow these simple guidelines when starting a new thread:

1. Title Your Thread Clearly

Don't just title your post "Old Photo." Help people filter through the threads by including the Year/Decade, Location, and Company/Platoon if you know it.

  • Good Example: 1 RWF - B Coy - Ballykinler, 1992
  • Good Example: Mortar Platoon - Gorazde, 1995


2. Provide as Much Context as Possible

In your post, share whatever details you can remember. Even small clues can jog someone's memory:


  • Who is definitely in the photo? (List the names you already know.
  • Where exactly was it taken? (The NAAFI, out on patrol, sangar duty?)
  • What is the story or joke behind the photo?


3. How to Help Identify People


  • If you recognise someone in a photo posted by another member, reply to the thread with their Name and, if possible, where they are in the picture (e.g., "Back row, third from the left is Jonesy").
  • Once a face is successfully identified, the original poster can edit their thread to update the caption!


4. Keep it Respectful

While we all love a bit of classic RWF banter, please remember that these photos represent our shared history. Keep the comments good-natured. If a photo features a brother-in-arms who is no longer with us, let’s ensure we honour their memory respectfully.
