View Full Version : A little moment to remember

I just attended my sons beaver scout carol service at St Giles in Wrexham. I sat in the Royal Welch chapel and found my eye drawn to two things. The first was the stained glass window. I pointed it out to my son and he said "I know, I know that window cost you a days pay." I have obviously bored him on the subject before.

The second thing I noticed was the old Third Battalion Colours. I must have been in St Giles about 10 times since the Third was disbanded and I have never noticed them before. These were the colours that I followed when I was in the RWF. I remember seeing them daily at the three hundredth anniversary in Nesscliffe, Cardiff, Wrexham, Llandudno and several other places. Staring at them made me sad.

I know that the first and third Battalions still exist. I know that they are closely connected but I am still sad about the loss of the cap badge. We retained a lot when we merged but I can't help mourn the fact that the cap badge I wore is no more.

As I left I bumped into someone who served with me and I took him across to the chapel to show him and we had a little moment of rememberance together. It would have been nice to think that our sons could have worn the same cap badge. Cest la vie.
