I see the Government has just done a complete "U Turn" on the T.A Budget. Just as well, where would we be without them?:wacko:

In light of all the cuts and u turns with regard to the TA, I feel I should give all Forun Members a feel for what has been happening in 3 R WELSH.

Since The Commanding Officer informed all soldiers in 3 R WELSH that all activities they would be asked to undertake would be unpaid, I was expecting the worse. However the situation has reinforced what the TA is all about and what an important part it plays in Regimental business.

80 soldiers turned up and completed the Cardiff Half Marathon unpaid. You could say its for charity, however travelling from North Wales on a Saturday morning and returning on Sunday late some in a lot of pain. Remembering they had to pay for their own meals during the weekend.

A team from the Battalion entered the Cambrian Patrol again no pay. The team consisted of a Local Sergeant, a female medic and also three new recruits. They achieved a silver medal when teams including regulars did not complete the event due to bad weather and navigation issues.

The Regimental Band and the Corp of Drums are to play at the Wales Festival Remembrance this weekend and all of the Remembrance events next week including the National Event in Cardiff, again no pay.

Drill nights continued because soldiers want to wear the cap badge and continue training. money was not the issue.

During all the uncertainty, TA soldiers in the Battalion have carried on as normal because its the right thing to do. Fortunatly things are looking a bit brighter with regards to pay, however when things were looking bad TA soldiers stood up to the plate. I have so much respect for them.

Its not all about a days pay, but is does help.

Well done those soldiers. Shows the real spirit of the T.A. More power to them.

O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;

Some things never change

It's good to see the same solid traditions and the crack-on attitude still continues to toady. As a representative on the RFCA (Wales) I can assure everyone in the TA and the Cadet Associations that we bombarded the Sectretary of State via MP's and Party Leaders pointing out the error of his way.
I'm so proud that the lads and lasses of 3RW showed their metal and carried on doing what they joined up to do despite some nonsensical politicians and civil servants making a calamitious decision.
Thank God the pressure paid off!
