I've just had a quiery regarding the actual position of the firing range that was on Kinmel beach.
Anyone know?

During the War the Rhyl district was virtually a garrison area. It provided a safe haven for soldiers in training, civil servants evacuated from city areas and families fleeing from bombing raids.
Anyway, I am in touch with a Colin Jones, a local historian, who tells me that the Army requisitioned Sunnyvale Camp as a base for soldiers, so he presumes that the firing ranges were near there.
He is going to ask a few 'old heads' and see if anyone remembers exactly.

"I've heard some conflicting opinion about this matter, but the following information seems to be undisputed:
There was a firing range on Horton's Nose. It was marked by a wall which had its back to the sea. The wall had Charles Jones Timber Yard on its left and a Pill Box on its right. The area was usually accessed from the Kinmel Bay side of the Foryd Bridge.
If you require any further information you could try contacting the veteran fisherman who used to operate out of the Foryd: John Povah, tel: (evenings) 01745 851090.
