I went to the Army v Navy game this year at Twickenham and was amased to see that people make a day of the event; the Navy do. I have spoken to close friends and ranking officers as well, and I have asked if we as a Regt (The Royal Welsh) could have a similer day (BBQ & drinks before and during match/tickets to the match (block booking). We have a high ranking officers approval if we get the numbers to hold such a day out

The response that I have had so far is fair, but I need reactions from peeps, before myself and my conspiritors get down to organising the day out.

Those who read the thread, can they please leave there vote in the poll provided. The poll will close at the end of Aug.

Many thanks.

Bearing in mind our regimental contribution to Forces Rugby, Its really surprising that we have no RWelsh tent at the match. I went a few yrs ago, and ended up with the guys from the WFR, who had their own bar!!!

Its a nightmare getting into these tents, if you are not ticketed...what a great day out that would be.

Wish football and boxing had equal support in the Battalion and not just a south Walian supported sport forced on Commanding officers forever

Jase, Rhondda asked for support when he was boxing in the Combined services last year in Portsmouth. How many people from the Regt went to support him?

It would be great to have a red Dragon bar, We could even get Jim Brown to run it for old times sake!! Although Im not sure I can put up with him moaning about not bringing our glasses back to the bar!!

Exactly, you dont get scale A support if its not Rugby.Sorry Jase but when the Bn was boxing as a team it was always scale A No2's or mess dress.
as for football and rugby, rugby first up to 1/4 finals home games semi scale A away games maybe 1 or 2 coaches would go then scale A 1/4 finals onwards army cup only. Finals in other cups
Football was the same however it was not enforced as much as the rugby was. I turned up to many a football game when i was'nt playing rugby maybe its changed a bit now but to be honest out of the 3 team sports not as individuals boxing got the best support

What a great idea,
Think it would be a great day out,and would be up for it without a doubt.
Boxing as always been loyalty followed in the Btn if South/North Wales,
Dont think it would be a great idea Joe running the bar the change might go to quick ha ha,
As you say everyone seems to make it a great day,so lets get it on.

Went to Army Navy this year and had an excellent day, as allways. Bumped into (and had a drink) with members of the R WELSH comrades who had an unofficial bar in the car park. Met Matt Palmer, Gary Martin, Mark Shields outside the ground and had a good chat, would love to have met more but looking for fellow Royal Welchmen amid 60,000 others is pretty difficult. The idea of a bar is a good one and if i am in the UK i will be there, it would have to be an unofficial bar though as the main marquees/hospitallity areas are for corps.
