I have purchased a Royal Welch Fusiliers swagger stick top, with the name - A Middleton - 18055 inscribed on the side.

Can anyone assist with identifying this person and what time period did he serve.

Good luck

Best Regards

Karl

Gottim!!!!

I think its A D Middleton.

According to Red Dragon. In 1940/41 he was 2 i/c Major of the 70th(young soldiers) Bn RWF. Which formed in Shrewsbury in the autumn of 1940....They guarded keypoints and stuff, based in small detachments they moved around quite a bit, including Lake Vrnwy, Rhayder, Rhyl Skegness and Welbeck College.

Disbanded in summer 1942, many young lads were drafted to 8 RWF.

Middleton is obviously a pre war soldier, this was a sort of home guard unit, so he was probably no spring chicken lol, or perhaps he was medically unfit for further active service??.....Perhaps Lars and Richard may be able to progress you.

Best Wishes

Al

Struggling at the moment, could do with a Christian name for this chap. I think you are on the right lines Al.

The best I can get so far, MIDDLETON, ARCHIE DUDLEY - but he was a Pte killed at Kohima.

I ran it through the gazette but didn't get a match. Still digging.

I have also looked in the Gazette, but found nothing. It did not show up at a check at the National Archives either. CLosest was a Alexander Donand Middleton, Montrose, who resigned as a trustee in 1941 (edinburgh gazette)

My son's Girlfriend is Middlton and I'm almost sure that she had a relative who served in the Royal Welch Fusiliers. I spoke with her Dad briefly on my way back from Wrexham last year after Golf in June. I can t remember if it was her Dads brother or father who served will check and get back to you.
