John joined 1 RWF in 1964 in Iserlohn, West Germany, having spent 2 years as a boy soldier at IJLB Oswestry.

On joining the Battalion, John was posted to B Company and served with them in Germany and Honiton. Before leaving with the battalion for Hong Kong, John was transferred to Sp Company and served in the Mortars.

In 1973, John was detached from the battalion to a specialist intelligence unit in Northern Ireland; he eventually transferred to the Intelligence Corps in 1978.

On joining the Int Corps he was posted 12 Int and Sec Company in Lisburn. Unfortunately, on an unknown date in September, John, together with his driver, was killed in a road traffic accident at Knutts Corner, near Lisburn by an articulated lorry driven by a man with very strong Republican links.

Hi Rog,

Like Ianto, thanks for that. Another name who I remember is now in the front of my mind. A nice guy too.
