I am new to the site and this forum. I am seeking any possible information about my father, CSM Robert Owen Jones, DCM, in relation to his service. My father died a few years ago and my one regret is that he was reluctant to talk about his wartime service. I am given to understand that he spent time in Burma and Madagascar amongst other places during the war.He served in the 2nd Battalion up to December 1945. His service number was 3385592. He is mentioned in the book "Y Dddraig Goch" in relation to his DCM.
Hi Evander and welcome to the Forum.
I'm out of the UK at the moment, so I don't have access to reference materials, but I think your father R.O Jones was a Sgt at Madagascar where he won his DCM, is that correct?
We have a part of the site called The Vault, where we store online documents of interest.

Included are quite a few interesting pieces from the 2nd Bn. Including a concert party programme from India, listing Sgt Jones DCM as part organisor.

You will also find excerpts from the CO's War Diary for the Madagascar actions. Look in detail at the Vault. You will note some other members who have contributed, whose fathers also fought alongside your father.
I have also looked at the medal roll for Madagascar and your father is CQMS with D Company, he is also listed as a holder of the DCM. Our medal gurus may be able to advise us!! But I think the list was possibly put together after Madagascar, and his postion in D Company was relevent to the day that the list was produced. He may have been with another company during the battle. The Red Dragon may indicate which company he fought with.

His citation for the DCM can be downloaded for a small fee here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=7658969&queryType=1&resultcount=1
DCM for attacking and capturing a french pill box single handedly with a bayonet.
Kind regards,

Hi,
Battalion Orders were issued by Lt. Gwydyr-Jones Commanding, 2nd Battalion The Royal Welch Fusiliers No 6 Field 17th April 1944, with the Nominal Roll of personnel in the Battalion who may wear the ribbon of the 1939-43 Star.
3385592 CQMS Jones R DCM was recorded as being in “D” Company which may help if you are trying to discover where Robert was in the various engagements with the Japanese.
Kind regards
Roy
