Only last night Wally said that Ray had been in and out of hospital over the last few weeks.
Like Rally, Ray was a true friend to me and the family, and I got on well with him when I was MT Cpl at the Depot in the early 70.
It brings it home to you that all the elders of the regiment are leaving us.
My condolances to Ray's family, and Ray mate rest in peace.

Ray was a wonderful friend, with a unique ability to offer advice without prejudice. He had a marvelously impish smile and twinkle in his eye.
With his warm and friendly personality, he touched many lives throughout his career. His positive attitude would always conjure a smile on the most challenging of days, and I don’t think I ever had a conversation with Ray that didn't involve laughter and usually, lots of it.
I would like to send the warmest empathy and condolences; our hearts and prayers go out to Ray’s family and friends during this difficult time.
We will all miss him dearly.

There are many kinds of sorrow
In this world of love and hate
But there is no sterner sorrow
Than a soldier's for his mate

Oh Dear,
Saddened again by the passing of one of the Battalion characters.
To add to the tributes already paid, 99 was one of the influences on my service life just after I joined the Bn - an impish, wicked and infectious sense of humour but always professional. Indeed, I remember when he was involed with recruit continuation training, he was always prepared to come back into the barrack room in the evenings, coupling training with humour thus establishing a rapport within the squad - we did become pals eventually.
99 loved to socialise and during his service, both him and Hilary would contribute to the full in every Mess or Club that they were members of.
Verna and I offer our deepest symathy and condolences to Hilary and her family at this sad time.
RIP 99

Hi,
Another sad day for the principality, no sooner had we laid Rally to rest, we were all gathered again today to witness the committal of our dear friend Ray Jones 99.
For those of you who were unable to attend, for whatever reasons, Ray 99 was the subject of a most revered 'Icon' send off.
Sadly, for obvious reasons, the service had to be splintered and a number of us were ushered into an Annex of the Church, divorced from the actual service.
On the up side, however, the turn out itself spoke volumes, and, to repeat myself, worthy of a deserving 'Icon' send off.
We could labour all day regarding salutations, suffice it to say "Tara" mate. we are all that little bit richer for rubbing shoulders with you, sharing your humour and in particular, having you as a friend.
Till we meet again!
after the funeral of ray i spoke to both jill and sandy, they would like to thank all of you for your kind messages and cards that they recieved, and thanks to all who attended the funeral after the sad loss of their father ray so once again thank you all and god bless. jill, sandy, and familys:frown:
