With a heavy heart, I must inform you that Dai passed away yesterday, Sat, 27 May. He was found dead, in his home, by a friend, who had gone to investigate Dai's absence from a social event.

No funeral details are known at the moment

Thats very sad Bob, end of an era really.I remember him in his bulled barrack dress shoes, cutting about Stornoway Barracks, back in the Lemgo days. He disappeared for many years after he left the army, then in recent years, I'm sure he had attended reunions.

What a great pity, Dai Davies 14 has gone,I got on very well with Dai when in the !st Bn.
I last saw him in Wrexham at a re-union but I can't remember which one, it was not that long ago though.
Very sad, I will look out for the funeral arrangements on the forum.
Joe.

I remember Dai Post well, a real character. Once in Belfast (Echelon - MPH) we are all watching a film in the charwallers - Dai walks in on us and shouts at the top of his voice "ANY WOMEN IN HERE? - NO? GOOD!" Then he farted so loudly it made the screen shake. He walked up to the counter saying "Ah -some may beat me on star quality, but not many on presentation"

He was a remarkable character and it’s so sad to hear of his death. As well as being an accomplished dart’s player, he was also a member of the Battalion Basketball team when we were playing in the Exeter League during our time in Honiton

'There are many kind of sorrow
in this world of love and hate,
but there is no sterner sorrow
than a soldier's for his mate'.

Great bloke and a more loyal, helpful soul would be hard to find. As post corporal (Dai post), before the days of e-mail, mobile phones and texting etc he was the key man in Bn HQ particularly in Hong Kong and NI when long awaited news from home was always something to look forward to.

Dai will be sorely missed, not least by members of the Bargoed and Blackwood Comrades Branch of which he was a stalwart member.

If I had one gift that I could give you, my friend, it would be the ability to see yourself as others see you, because only then would you know how extremely well thought of you were

It is with a heavy heart that I now read of Dai 14 death.
I had lost contact with Dai many years ago but still had his ugly
mug on my desk in our No1 Dress in 1964 when he was my bestman
at my wedding at Iserlohen,I had hoped to see him again at my
42 wedding anniversery this August but will try and pay him my
respects.
