I am looking for any information or photos of George Forbes. He was in the RWF from 1927-1945 leaving as a Company Sargent Major. He was in the Sudan in the '30's and India Lucknow 1938-1940. He was then in the 11th Service Battalion (30th-31st)1940 onwards. I would also like to know where this Battalion was during the war.
Any information would be appreciated.
Hampton.

Hi Hampton and welcome.

Firstly can I ask how you obtained the info about George that you've already posted. This will prevent the other members searching needlessly for info you already have.

The WW2 11th Service Bn is a new one on me. I will be interested to see what unit that was....Home Guard maybe?

For Forum members, can someone check Red Dragon for any mention please, especially the Citations.

Thanks

His service number was 4185401 and he was a Regular. That is all I can confirm.

Hi
thank you for your reply. George was my father. I have his army papers. This is where i get all my information. He is not mentioned in the red dragon. I have been told before that the 11th service bn was some sort of home guard or training. But no one seems to know. I wrote to canarvon castle archives but they could not come up with any information. George joined the rifle brigade but was commadeered into the rwf in 1927. In 1940 he went back to the rifle brigade for about 9 months. My mother was in india with him and my sister was born in lucknow feb.1940.
Thanking you for your interest.
Hampton

The regimental chart in Glover/Rileys "That astonishing Infantry" shows an 11th RWF 1939-41, but nothing on its tasks. There is also a number 11 among the 25 Home Guard battalions.l
