James Underwood RWF -1890's/1900's

Hi everyone,

I have found out recently that my grandfather, James Underwood, was in the Royal Welch Fusiliers. He was born in 1863 and I have a photo of him in uniform when he was aged about 25 years old. His daughter had told me in the past that he served in India. In the 1901 census in Belfast he is shown as Soldier (RWF). Is there anywhere I can find out more about his service in the RWF? Thanks

Hopefully we can help, Do you have a service number? Do any of his medals survive?

Im not in the UK so dont have access to reference materials, so perhaps one of our members can assist by identifying if any RWF were in Ireland in 1901. Im certain that the 2nd BN were based in India, but engaged in fighting the Boers in South Africa at that time.
