I don't know how much history your regiment is taught, but this is an interesting story.

If you haven't already read this link, it's a well written account of the 23rd Foot during the American Revolution. They are highly regarded by several historical societies over here and probably the most accomplished regiment of the war.

According to the article, they travelled over nearly the entire colonial area, fought in a large number of engagements, and were here for almost the entire 8 years. Great story at the end about how they saved their colors.

It's amazing the things one learns later in life.

Another good book on the market is a book called "Fusiliers" by Mark Urban he gives a very good graphic view of the Royal Welch Fusiliers 23rd The Foot of their fighting in the American War of Independence. (don't know if you can purchase a copy over your end of the "pond")?

Re the 23rd in the American War of Independance. Some time ago I was in touch with one Greg Eames. Greg wrote a pamphlet called Tarleton's Southside Raid, he sent me 5 copies, it is a fascinating work.It is the definitive history of the British Colonel Banastre Tarlton's Southside Virginia Raid (July 24th 1781)during the Yorktowncampaign of the American Revolution. The pamphlet also includes Peter Francisco's famous fight.
