He also became good friends with Mallory who lost his life climbing Everest and thought Mallory would try for the summit even if he knew he would not be able to make it down and die.

Spot on Pembo. A great book. It caused a lot of controversy within the regiment when it was first published. Im pretty sure he later partially apologised in subsequent reprints, but I may be mistaken. It also caused a major rift between himself and Seigfried Sassoon, as Graves went into detail about Sassoon's mental breakdown.

Its a good introduction to the regiment in the Great War.

I agree Al. I read it quite a few years back now. Although, its the type of book, I will probably return to in the future.

The sections covering his wartime service are very good and a most enjoyable read, though as mentioned above it did cause him and Sassoon to fall out as it also did with him and Dunn as well, though the 3 authors books are the best covering the RWF during WWI that I have so far read, well that and Old Soldiers never die by Frank Richards.

Sassoon and Graves did fall out, I think it was over money. I also believe Sassoon did not like certain parts of Graves new book. It almost came to litigation. I think it was Faber & Faber who shredded the book and had to reprint it They did how ever made friends again.
